after going through a box of stuff i found a 2 oz bottle of black dye based ink from alotofthings it is formulabs inks, it was bought from alot of things so you have an idea how old it is, i have since switch to precision inks after alot of things went out of business, if anyone wants this bottle of ink you can have it just pay the shipping i really don't want to just dump it down the drain if some one can use it

:( If the ink is that old then the kindest thing to do would be to put it down..

There is really no difference between just print it until all that ink is sprayed on the paper and drain all of it in the toilet. When the printed paper is dumped all that ink goes to the landfill too.

Personally, I wouldn't discard old dye ink if:

* It hasn't formed algae
* It doesn't foam after shaking
* It doesn't stick to the container after shaking
* It hasn't evaporated

I recently discovered two small bottles of magenta & yellow ink I bought almost 10 years ago from Weink (Image Specialists?). I searched the web for potential problems in storing dye ink for a long time and found nothing besides the issue of algae which these inks had not formulated.

So I gave them a good shake and then started testing them on my ip3300 -- no problems.

EDIT: I need to clarify that my IP3300 is a 2pl printer. I would not use low quality or old ink on a 1pl printer.

Ah, yes - the fungus among us.

Article suggests (Google Translate):

So if you have a thermal print head (Canon, HP, Lexmark and Kodak), which was simply the latest print every two to three days a nozzle check. This ensures that ink flows through each nozzle and growing fungal spores are washed away.

By the piezo print heads (Epson and Brother), the fungal spores are undamaged. Therefore recommends the Druckerchannel cheap refill ink with a few drops of fungicide ointment or spray to accumulate.
