Well the printhead uncloged a bit but Magenta that was working fine before completely died, can't get it to work, dissasembled printhead and checked that channel is uncloged, but no more magenta. I think I will buy a new printer because, print head costs the same as Pixma 5200 with inks.

Is ammonia and "spirit of ammonia" (the one they use to revive people who have collapsed due to heat stroke, faint, etc.) the same?

All I could get is spirit of ammonia, and have tried the 100% 1-hour soak, and my test page on my Pixma IP1000 still shows streaks (very fine horizontal streaks). Printing on High settings gives a clean printout, but the colors aren't as vibrant as the pre-clog Normal settings printout. Any other suggestions?

Also, do I have to "push" the ammonia in through the ink ports or through the print head? Or can I just put ammonia in a saucer and put the print head on to the solution?

Here's a page I printed before the ink problems:

Here's the same page printed with problems:

And this is the test page I get from the printer's control panel:

Apparently, the clogs seem to be from the M and Y ports.

I've tried 70% alcohol too, both in a tissue, and using a syringe to force it through ports. Still no go.

Well 10% ammonia can corode contacts if when it mixes with air it produces coroding vapour. Be carefull when using, Use some scotch tape to cover the electric parts.

Well, I tried a 2-hour soak with glass cleaner last night, and it didn't help. In fact, the banding got worse and my Cyan, which was okay at the start, showed banding as well.

I've noticed that I can get no banding when I print on High quality mode, so since I'm not really saving on ink, I might as well continue using the printer but in a much slower PPM... oh well.
