Yesterday i bought a canon ip1880 from a guy who sells 2nd hand goods, which cost only about 20$ , we tested it, it's working ok, except for the inks it's blinking 7x orange. still i bought the printer, and when i got home i removed the ink cartridges and replace it with the one i'm currently using which are remanufactured inks, it prints good, prints even better than the same printer i have now. Now the problem is getting the inks that it came with to work, i have place it in a bowl of hot water to remove all the inks stuck outside the nozzles, i got it removed and cleaned all the electrical contacts, but still the led blinks 7x, is there away to solve this problem? the inks that it came with already got holes which indicates it has been refilled before, but have no idea how many times it was filled.
Thank u in advance.:D

That problem of seven orange light means that you have one of several things that can cause this issue.
The cartridges are in the wrong position or the chip on one /several cartridges are incorrect.

The second one is that one /several of the chips on the cartridges could be damaged.

I have only noticed that your printer uses tri color cartridges so a new set of cartridges will most lightly solve all of your problems. :)

Yes it's using a tricolor cartridge, i notice on the label it says cl-380 and cl-381 oppose to my pg-40 and cl-41, are these cartridges the same? they look the same, but i can't see the difference other than the electrical contacts pattern located in the cartridge.
Thank you for the reply :) , yes i know replacing it will solve the problem, i was just kinda hoping there's a fix so i would not have to buy another ink for it, i'm kinda broke after buying that printer :D

Hi jeremyst

You can only use the cartridges specified for your printer. Even if the other cartridges look similar, electrical design is different.

In case you didn't get the install CD you can download on screen user manual and extra programs from the Canon website. Windows Vista and 7 offer plug and play installation, and this works very well, but this installs only the printer driver.

From the on screen user manual it is seen that 7 yellow or orange flashes means "cartridge not recognised" i.e. cartridge is defective or wrong type and 4 flashes means the cartridge is empty or almost empty. Like with the larger Canon printers you can disable ink monitoring and continue printing. This is good for refillers.

The product number ip1880 suggests Canon region 8 = Asia. Am I correct?

So I did a Google search and found this: http://www.drvsky.com/canon/canon_pixma_ip1880.htm or in English: http://translate.google.dk/translat...//www.drvsky.com/canon/canon_pixma_ip1880.htm

This means that both PG-40/CL-41 and PG-830/CL-831 can be used. I guess that the cartridge sets have different capacities, maybe the PG-830/CL-831 cartridges are an XL version? Depending on your location this cartridge set might be named differently, but the PG-40/CL-41 seem to be the same worldwide.

These cartridges are for USA: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/sna/c...ip_series/pixma_ip1800#SuppliesAndAccessories

and these are for UK : http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/consumables/consumables_finder/printers/inkjet/iP1800.aspx

Thanks for the links PeterBj, as i have observed the canon ink cartridges cl-41 and pg-40 since it's release date was and always been pretty expensive, it's 20$+ and it's almost a thousand pesos in my country. I can only afford the re-manufactured cartridges which also give quality prints.
Yes i think so to, cl-831 and cl-41 are the same, maybe the sponge type inside the cartridge or the country code is they are called.
