If the tab breaks off the cartridge becomes unusable. You can not glue it back. No glue will glue HDPE material together. So be very careful in bending the clip. I will not consider bending it in any way. The black piece is a light mask. It is a cosmetic item. You can remove it if you remove the light pipe.
I have been refilling my cartridges and therefore had to dissable ink level monitor. I wanted to see ink levels without removing the cartridges, so I removed first the light guide of my CLI-8 Yellow and my iX4000 recognize the cartridge. Then I removed the light guide of the PGI-5 Black, and thinks countinued to work fine. But when I removed the light guide of the CLI-8 Magenta, the printer refused to recognize the cartridge. I put back the light guide of the magenta using clear acetate tape and it worked again. Why is this so?
