Cartridge chip on Canon IP4500

One of my cartridges can be reset on my redsetter but my printer will not recognise it (no red light etc.)

I'm a bit tight when it comes to throwing away empty carts and just wondered if anything can be done with the chip.

Use an eraser to clean off the contacts on the cart chip. Are there any obstructions in the print head carrier that is preventing a good contact?

If all is good and it's still not recognized, go to Octoink.com, websnail has some empty OEM CLI carts for for sale (well practically giving away):

Try resit that cartridge that is not giving out light again. Press on the plastic at the end downward ( the plastic where you press on it to loosen and lift out the cartridge) to ensure the chip make good contact with the chip sensor.

Thanks for info. Tried the eraser and got a red light illumination. Thought I'd cracked it but Cartridge still not recognised. Obviously the chip is kaput.

The Canon 4500 is very touchy about its cartridges and the way one insert them.
Try removing all of the cartridges and close the lid.
Now open the lid again and insert the first cartridge then close the lid and wait for the on screen messages to appear.
Do this each time till all cartridges are installed.
This approach can sometimes reset the error messages that the print head puts out.
Its worth a try anyway good luck..

Try putting it back in the resetter again. You should see the following ...

1. A momentary flash from the cartridge LED as you insert it in the resetter.
2. Then no light for 2-3 seconds.
3. Then a steady red LED.

If you get this pattern, it means the resetter is happy with the cartridge, so it should be worth pursuing fault-finding at the printer end.

Sometimes the plastic burrs holding the chip in place can interfere with the contacts or force the chip/cartridge just out of range of the contacts so you may find a little careful excising of any displaced excess may help.

I've given up on it. The red light is illuminated but the cartridge is not recognised.
