If you buy your inks in smaller tanks or quantity then the custom might not bother you, I have never been challenged for customs charges for anything coming from China, so maybe you might think about a purchase before Brexit, the goal posts might move…:hu
P.S. you might want to contact OctoInkjet.co.uk and see if they do inks for your printer, tell them I sent you..

Thanks Hat, I emailed Octoinkjet on Monday and the guy there said they weren’t doing inks for the PFI ranges yet but are working on it

inks for the PFI ranges
Precision Colors out of Canada sells aftermarket inks for PFI cartridges. The owner is forum member @mikling. You can email him on his Precision Colors web site and ask questions as well.

Just saw something I've never seen before: Buying inks on a monthly installment payment plan!

Is this one of the signs of the Apocalypse?

Only my five cents (or maybe four ) :

When purchasing a printer like the Pro2100, the user should know beforehand what to expect regarding cost of ink. I understand perfectly that 12 OEM 700ml carts are a huge investment and third party consumables look appealing but nobody can expect a level of performance approaching OEM ink at a fraction of the price. This isn't a multifunction everyday machine where color matching isn't that important.
IMHO running a Pro-2100 with cheap ink is far from ideal and not only for the probable chip issue, but for color accuracy and consistency. At least, in order to get a good enough rendition, the user should invest in a colorimeter and make custom profiles.

My 42 cent…

The problems with running a Pro 2000 is if you don’t make enough from your photographic sales, then commercial work become far more completive, and price is king here, and that’s where compatible inks come into their own.

Once I’ve made the initial printer purchase, I never used OEM inks again, (Too costly) I always switched to refillables straight away, your customers don’t know or care whether your using OEM inks or not because the compatible inks are that good.

The only differences between compatible pigment inks and OEM inks are the prices, it’s not that compatible inks are cheap, more like OEM inks are just way over the top for price… That’s where the printer manufacturers make their money..

As far as colour accuracy is concerned, side by side the differences are unmeasurable with the human eye, in all the time I’ve used compatible inks I never had a single comment on accuracy or quality, in fact mostly only compliments, and that’s all down to the quality of the ink suppliers..

The world of Photography and Commercial printing are completely different animals when it comes to colour output, you must match the customers colours and once your client is satisfied then you go with that, if you don’t know about colour matching then you shouldn’t be in the business..

When you print with photos you work in a RGB colour space, but commercial work is in CYMK spot colour, (Pantone or other) that way colour matching is more precise and your own personal choices never come into it.. You print from Illustrator, InDesign or PDF, not Lightroom or Qimage, and Pixel Peeper are never go there…

Hi, Think I spoke to you the other day about this. Just to confirm we do have an ink set for the Pro-1000 that is also compatible with the higher model references such as the 2000 and 4000 but because we've not got any reference experiences with those other machines (and I really do prefer to have that sort of confirmation) we're loath to recommend them until we've covered that.

Our North American supplier is already selling them for all those models and the ink so I'd be more inclined to recommend our inks if you're seriously considering no-brand Chinese alternatives without a hard review and recommendation to go on.

As to chips I've sent a query for an update from our contact at Apex/Static-Control so hopefully I'll have news sometime soon on that.

I did find this on Alibaba though if it's of any use:

That's a WHOPPER of a price differential on chips compared to the link @The Hat posted
The price I posted is for AliExpress and is retail but the other is Alibaba wholesale and you must purchase a minimum amount of sets x 12 chips to get them at their prices..

It is of course better to get the chips than to get the Carts and chips together and that might help to avoid Customs charges in the UK, which of course being a business, OctoInkjet is I believe exempt..
This is one of the rare ocassions where I have to disagree with @The Hat.
If you wish to disagree with me then please do so, I welcome it, because I’m not always right, all of the time.. :th and it doesn’t stop @stratman putting me in my place..:hide

You know that I only disagree with you when you’re wrong and I’m right ... but then, many times I’m wrong, especially when I think I’m right.
Again, Pro-2100 + cheapest ink available + no custom profiles isn’t my cup of tea (or whiskey ).

Apart from that, it would be interesting to know positively if those Chinese chips for the Pro-2100 work as advertised or they’re useless, as our friends José Rodríguez and Mikling seeem to think. For instance, Prec.Colors. offer single use chips for PFI-1000 carts ( Pro-1000 ) but not for PFI-1100/1300/1700 ( Pro-2000 and above ).
