Wondering if anyone has any experience using a Canon pro100 in essentially a mobile setup. I'm going traveling with a caravan and wondered if I have to leave my printer at home or if I could take it with me. How will it take to vibration? I was thinking of a pelican case with lots of foam.
I like the idea of being able to stop and print on location but not if it means death to the printer.

I used to take a small MG5250 on holidays abroad in the car.
Don't think vibrations are a concern, but I observed some leaking (refilled) carts probably due to altitude changes.

A pelican case would keep the printer outside from getting scuffed and dinged, but it wouldn't do much for the parts inside the printer. Shocks would still be transferred to the interior parts. If you can build a case with springs under the printer feet, that would reduced the vibration and more serious vertical shocks. The springs should be a good length, to allow not only for compression, but also for extension (say when the vehicle bumps into a pothole). The case should have foam sides to keep the printer from getting knocked sideways. With time (or mileage) you would still see scuffing of the printer sides; soft cloth on the foam could minimize this.

Having said this, I would still defer to the other gurus in this forum regarding what interior parts need to be protected, with shims, etc. I might even suspect that elevation differences (like going over mountain passes) can cause problems with ink leakage.

Anyway, bon voyage.

I hadn't thought of altitude changes. I use refilled carts as well

Thank you for taking the time to reply. You've got me thinking about something along the lines of turntable platter suspension systems.
I am also concerned about temperature build up inside a case

@farquers, you are over thinking the whole darn thing, you don’t need anything special, just place the printer on a flat surface with a sheet of double corrugated cardboard under it and this will also help in the advent of any spillages, never say never.
Enjoy your trip.:thumbsup

Have you considered buying a cheap used printer at a thrift store (Goodwill) for your trip and leaving your big Pro 100 home where it is safe from the dangers of travel? Where I live there are many used but still working printers available for between $5.00 and $10.00
