Just how many or if any of the new Pro printers can still get into service mode.
It would be very interesting to know how far this problem goes back.

It’s been around now for some years but has only been reported causing problems on the desktop models, so how about it guys.

It doesn’t effect the Pro 9000 or Pro 9500, and it probably isn’t in the early Pro 100 models but apart from that we are absolutely in the dark, and this issue isn’t going to go away.

Could we have some answers from Pro printer owners please, like Model, year of purchased, firmware Version and or if upgraded and finally can it enter Service Mode or not. ?

It takes less than a minute to check and it doesn’t require any input from your computer and it won’t harm your printer in any way.

Just let your fingers do the walking.. ;)

I tried last night on the Pro 10, the first time I did it windows did the found new hardware thing but no divers, so I ran the tool, v.3400, the buttons could be clicked on but then it stopped responding, I shut off the printer and the power light flashed and flashed, so I had to unplug it and restart the printer. Printed a nozzle check to make sure it still worked.
Havent been able to get windows to show the found new hardware thingy since...

EDIT:
The smoothprint service site is 404 so I dont have the directions for sure, but what I have gleaned is hold power and warning at the same time, then tap the warning button 4 or 5 times..
I dont recall exactly what I did last night, but I did snag the 3600 tool from the russian site to retry...

EDIT:
GOt windows to report new hardware, 3400 and 3600 both error'd with a 006 I think it was..

The site still lives in the Wayback Machine. Here is the link. It is seen that the procedure is the one that involves pressing the Stop/Resume button five times and that works with the PGI-x25/CLI-x26 cartridge printers. Sadly it seems this procedure no longer works with the Pro printers. Printers of the PGI-x50/CLI-x51 and most likely also PGI-x70/CLI-x71 generations are also affected by this problem.

Maybe we just need a newer service tool?? It is doing something...
We need a "friend" who works at a Canon authorized service center....heh

A Lovely taught, but not a chance in hell of getting it, besides you need to be on- line to activate the service tool also...:(

But, if I can get ahold of a copy, I might, or might not know some people that could possibly bypass the online activation, just need to see why it's calling home.....

The new service tool also has to have a service centre activation code (Password) to authenticate and identify the user first, so it’s nothing short of bullet proof.

You may cut the cost of your printing by getting a discounted Canon Pro printer and you can also reduce further your costs by using 3rd party inks but this is one cost that has to be taken on the chin, there’s no way out, unless !

You can get a couple more of these discounted printers and store them up till you hit the waste ink full issue and then just dump the printer, (Terrible waste) but it would be far cheaper than submitting to blackmail.. :D
