If somebody is interested. Especially in the density response chart you can immediately spot the error. Great way to check your profiles even before you do a test print. You can also see the deeper curve on the custom profiles compared to the generic (bottom left corner of the density chart). Made with Gamutvision (it seems that it used to be paid but is free now)

This is the "bad" Pro Luster profile - even after re-scanning the A5 patches in better conditions:

This is the original Canon OEM profile for Pro Luster paper:

And this is the new, "good" profile for Pro Luster made from A4 sheets in good conditions:

I doubt very much that the initial issue wiht the profile was caused by scaling to A5 paper. I’ve been doing that almost from the beginning of owning my Color Munki and no complains. Even reduced to A5 paper size those patches are big enough for the sensor of the ColorMunki/Istudio. Of course, it’s preferable to use a ruler or similar to help scanning in a straight line and also center carefully the sensor in the middle of the patch. Anyway, if you ‘derail’ a lot, the software gives an error and you have to repeat the pass.

I will give it another try, now when I know how to check the quality of the profile before I print test image, it does not cost more than a minute of time. Maybe its because I am still not comfortable with the sliding of the device over patches instead of reading patch by patch. I feel like the speed of sliding affects the quality of the reading... And I will use ruler as a guide from now on.

Yes, I would think so as well, if you can handle an A5 patch sheet it's just fine - it may need a little bit of practice.

The B/W response curve directly shows the irregularity with this display mode setting, Gamutvision is free since quite along time already, there is no further update or development happening anymore.

Hi folks,

I have promised to get back. It took some time, but I got back to the issue and here are the conclusions:
  • the difference between using A4 and A5 sheets for calibration seems to be negligible (tried when calibrating Pro Platinum paper)
  • scaled-down A5 sheets are harder to scan correctly, but nothing that cannot be beaten with a simple ruler and practice
  • my mistake was not releasing the i1Studio button after the last patch, I was releasing it after I reached (and overrun) the edge of the paper
So, I do apologize - this whole issue was created because of me being a noob. I also thank you for pointing me towards the right direction.

My experiences with the ColorMunki/I1studio are exactly like yours. On A5 sheets holding the button too long causes an error because the soft thinks that there's an additional patch. It happened to me lots of times, and still does if I'm not very careful. Now, imagine if we used A6 sheets ! :D
