It has to do with the connectivity.
Kind of a crappy explanation in the article on this point.

Whereas the PRO-100 included a wireless LAN interface, the PRO-100S is fully Wi-Fi enabled and supports direct printing via Wi-Fi from smart devices is also available via Canon’s Easy-PhotoPrint+ (EPP+) app.
No matter how the article attempts to differentiate, both printers have built in wireless LANs that happens to be of the WiFi variety. All WiFi are wireless LANS but not all wireless LANs are WiFI - there are different types of wireless LANs, ie Bluetooth vs WiFi.

All Ford cars are automobiles but not all automobiles are Fords. Some can be Porsches and BMWs, thank goodness.

A brief search shows both printers have the same external connections: a USB and a LAN port on the rear and a PictBridge and a button (name escapes me) to "easily" connect the printer to a compatible wireless device. Internally, both have a wireless NIC card of some sort, probably using the 2.4 GHz band with the same wireless protocols b/g/n.

Maybe the difference is the number and/or quality of the apps used to interface between the printer and a phone, tablet of other wireless computer, ie a more mature interface with the Pro-100S out of the box than when the Pro-100 first came out. Maybe that is what the article means by "connectivity". Who knows, maybe Canon changed to a better quality wireless NIC card or juiced up their firmware/drivers for the Pro-100S. Maybe similar enhanced connectivity happened with later software/firmware updates with the Pro-100.

Another difference I read from forums was the Pro-100S has 14" width paper tray(s?) and the Pro-100 is 13".

Good info @stratman. I never bothered to search for differences between the Pro100/100s or Pro10/10s.
For what you say, to practical effects, both printers are the same.

I doubt very much that the front paper trays are different. That would mean redesigning several mechanical parts. A non negligible manufacturing expense, Why Canon would do that ?
That 13 " vs 14" width argument probably started because some users mean the max. paper width (13") and others the real width of the tray itself.
I don't own a Pro100 or 100s but my Pro10s (close sister of both in mechanical design) has a 37cm (14.4") wide front tray, while the max. paper width is 32.9cm (12.95").

@Artur5

I was thinking the same as you about paper tray widths. A quick look at the specs states 13" x 19" as single sheet max for both printers.

A long time ago there was a thread on the forum asking what was different about the "s" models. I recall the explanation was the region the printer was sold.

Was the "s" model sold in the USA? I do not recall it so.

I could do a dumpster dive looking at what software downloads are available for each printer but they seem to be grossly similar.
I did see both printers have new firmware for Windows 11 compatibility. :ya

Maybe someone who has owned both model numbers can say better.

Yeah. The :yawas an homage to @Ink stained Fingers and his mocking of an aftermarket Pro-200 inkset claimed to be just like OEM. The subtlety of his post was delicious.

Time will tell if upgrading will be necessary for the Windows 11 environment.

Have you read reports of failure to function from people after upgrading to Windows 11?

If your printer will work under Win 10, then it will work on Win 11, no need to change the firmware, it’s not a Feckin Mac..:ep

Ya got proof for that, chief? Chances are such if the past is prologue in MS world, but now you made me look this up. Seems there ARE issues with Windows 11 for some printers. :barnie

That was a quick Google search and scan. May be more.

Correct there will be on some, but Windows normally always corrects the issues with already installed printer on your system... They do with mine..
