I have a five year old Canon Pro 1000 where it threw a 140B - printhead is not installed error code.

The Internet said unplug the printer without shutting it down for up to 24 hours and this will reset the code. Some people said this worked, but other said their only option was to purchase a new PC-10 printhead. In my case nothing has worked, including cleaning the electrical contacts though they looked fine to start out with as well as leaving the print head on Windex soaked paper towels. The print head might have some plugs but does not appear to be totally plugged given what came out on dry paper towels.

That said one person on the Internet said his Pro1000 threw 140B right in the middle of a print job that otherwise appeared to be progressing correctly. This suggests that Canon might have a timeout built into the printhead. In fact I noticed PC-10 printhead resetter tools for sale but the sellers do not say what the device accomplishes, such as resetting a 140B error.

Is there Canon software to reset this? Or is this something else?

Thoughts?
