What printer would you choose? A used canon pro-1, which I can not visually check out first and probably the inks are low or used up, OR a brand new canon pro-10 in the box for the same price.

I love the idea of having the larger capacity carts for the pro-1, along with all the research that I have done stating that this is a great printer. However, to a some what novice in printing, will the pro-1 really out do the pro-10 and create the holy grail pictures OR is the pro-1 just marginally better than the pro-10?

I purchased the Pro 10 because I can refill the carts, and reset the chips, as far as I have read there's no resetter for the 1, just one time use chips....

it is a quiet, almost boring morning. So here is my UNIFORMED opinion.

Disclaimer: I own neither printer, but have read reviews and reports. Nearly bought a Pro-10 some 12 months ago , but got a brand new Epson 3880 at fire-sale price instead.

The Pro-1 is an excellent printer but the operational costs are extremely high. If you are independently wealthy OR selling high end fine art prints at market value, this could be the printer for you. Using anything but high priced OEM inks can be problematic and complicated. Result will be out of this world, but will require images and file of commensurate quality.

Every thing you wanted to know about the Pro-10 is available on this site. Just have to search for it. By all accounts stunning quality, Robust construction (Or what passes for robust nowadays) and a proven refill procedure using third party inks for economical operation.

To me it is a no-brainer.

@William Seaward, the Pro 1 is the Holy Grail for glossy Photos, but the Pro 10 is not that far behind it, and I reckon the new Pro 10 would be more beneficial to you, because it has more 3rd party supplies available right now.

Besides collecting and installing a Pro 1 is a two man job because of its weight, for the occasional couple of prints or the casual user then the Pro 10 would be more suitable, it does have the smaller carts that might seem like a draw back but they are so easy to fill that you’ll never run out of ink..

Thanks for all the replies! Being able to reset/refill the carts is a major plus, however, Precision Colors has on their website that a solution is close at hand for the pro-1. My main concern is how many pictures that I print, and right now I average around 5 a week and most of my printing is on the weekends, hardly ever during the week.

Not being able to look at the printer and test it, it could be a "pig in a bag" sorta speak and that has the possibility that it could have issues, so the "Brand New" in the box option at this point sounds like the way to go.

You need not worry about leaving these Canon Pro printer alone for a week or two without printing anything, when you have a Canon Pro, then clogs are something that happen to someone else.

The Pro 1 never clogs..;)
