That's what was in Canon's documentation regarding firmware, it was to perform a nozzle check and check the bottom for firmware version.
Now that you got her working, please don’t mess with her, she has a nasty side to her, and don’t believe everything your hear or read from Canon, they mostly talk through their arse when it comes to the Pro 1..
I had left the printer on overnight (which it shut itself off after the 240 min window) and just turned it on and attempted the driver reinstall.
You can alter how long you want the printer to stay on from after use, from 15 mins to 240 mins or never, you decide, but don’t leave her on indefinitely she won’t like that..

Good luck with your new printer, she will produce beautiful prints for you, but you better have deep pockets..

Surprisingly, this morning when I attempted again Windows updated to a Canon driver (yay!).
That's normal and as you were told it would happen..
P.S. you can upgrade or change any driver you want but NEVER do a Firmware upgrade on this or any other Canon printer, no good will come of it, that I can guarantee..

I agree, their documentation seems to be subpar regarding this printer

Luckily enough I got this printer and a full set of OEM ink for a song. I was looking at Precision colors for my next set of inks, any thoughts?

Are there any suggested mods for the longevity of the printer? I saw the printer potty, but not much else

Gonna have to technically disagree with you.

In general, never update your printer (or WiFi Router) firmware UNLESS there is a fix for a specific problem you have OR there is some added functionality you must have.

If it's working then don't upgrade as you may encounter issues like failed flashing, new issues, or even potential loss of function.

I think @The Hat is so adamant you not flash the firmware is you will lose the ability to reset your waste ink counter by disallowing you from entering Service Mode. Maybe it could mess with your ability to refill in some fashion. The Hat will need to explain his reasoning.

If you only use OEM cartridges and not refill AND you cannot enter Service Mode or are not able to reset the waste ink counter now then there is no reason not to upgrade the firmware except for the general rules I wrote above.

Finally, if the printer works then do not upgrade just because you can (like I just did with my BIOS firmware!).

I agree, I typically don't update firmware unless its for new functions. This printer appears to have very poor consumer control, so I'll leave the firmware as-is.

From previous posts I think The Hat is adamant because of the waste ink counter.

Now all that's left to do is fix a PBK clog..
