The most resetters for the PGI-5/CLI-8 cartridges use either a single CR2032 Lithium coin cell or 3 alkaline button LR41 cells. The unloaded voltage of a new lithium coin cell is around 3.30 V and for a new alkaline button cell it is around 1.55 V. So your new battery/ies is/are defective, probably being too old. I suggest to buy a new battery or new batteries and try again.

i've had a few PGI5/CLI8 battery based re-setters over the past 15 years with replaceable batteries. some have a sticker over the back 4 screws. i also have a USB resetter that can reset both PGI5/CLI8's and PGI220/CLI221's as well. the battery ones seem to work better.

good to hear there are some others still printing/refilling the older canon printers, build quality was much better back in the day

my current(dinosaur fleet) of active printers are:
- MX700(2007)
- MP980(2008)
- MX870(2010)
- PRO-100(2013)

still going strong, at 2,043 refills over 15 years

It’s a pity @jru didn’t come back and let us know how he got on..
Any feedback is better than none..

Sorry, the Hat, I am only now seeing your message. Yes, the resetter you graciously sent me has worked to reset refilled cartridges on my newly installed backup ip4500 (after my ip4300 finally dying). Thank you so much, I really appreciated your sending it!

On another note, Canon has no drivers for this printer on their website, and on the phone, they just say they no longer support this printer (and would be happy to sell a newer one). The rep did suggest just trying to install using the original CD that came with the printer (even though it was for windows 8, I think), and that did work.

good to hear you are back up and refilling. your IP4500 is one of canon's best quality ink jet printers, large PGI5/CLI8 clear ink carts, released in 2007. i have a new IP4500 that i have as backup if needed.

also nice job by "the Hat " to help out a fellow re-filler

The 8.1 Drivers(Version 2.11 -10/15/2013) are also available on the web although it may not be that much newer than the CD ones

Even if there are no W8 or newer drivers available for old Canon printers, older drivers often work well with the newer OS's. My oldest functional Canon printer is an iP4000. It works with W10 32 bit on a laptop and W10 64 bit on a desktop.
