So I am thinking about hitting the buy button on this printer but ink costs worry me a little bit, I heard it prints great photos but runs out quickly, then I stumbled upon this site and got very confused, whats the difference between these two setups and are these any good?

http://www.cityinkexpress.co.uk/ciss/lyson/canon-pixma-pro-9000-mk-ii/pixma-pro-series/lyson-dye-ink

or

Now I use to own a Epson Artisan 700 but it permanently clogged after about only 100 8x10 prints, I sent it in and they said "Nothing we can do, here is a full refund". So I thought I would give Canon a shot this time around. I use to use ink from inkproducts.com on occasion on my Artisan and honestly I had no problem with quality so if I can avoid the higher priced one that would be ideal. Any opinions on this would be great!

Also is this a good site?

No one here will recommend that you use a CISS on a Canon printer. This is a recipe for trouble. Even with heavy use I highly doubt that the Red/Green cartridges on this printer will ever flow enough for a CISS not to clog. Don't waste your time and printer trying to make a CISS system work reliably on this printer.

I have a Pro9000 myself and I refill the OEM cartridges with Hobbicolors ink. I use a chip resetter to reset the chips and keep track of the ink levels. The CLI-8 cartridges hold a decent amount of ink and are easy to refill.

Don't bother with the CISS system! Buy some quality ink from Image Specialists (Octoinkjet if you're in the UK, Precision Colors if you're in the U.S. or Canada) or Hobbicolors (if you don't mind generating a color profile) and you'll be happy.

No clogging, no fooling around.

I second this.

One needs to understand that the proper operating conditions for feeding the Canon print head is small and with the Pro9000 with its wide nozzle plate the window is smaller than the smaller printheads. In other words it has less tolerance for variations. The Epson printhead on the other hand has a much wider tolerance.

The second aspect is that when these tolerances fall outside the window and you continue to use the printer, the Canon printhead is slowly tortured to the point of finally destroying itself when it totally clogs up when it overheats and cakes the internals of the nozzles with hard baked ink. The Epson printhead on the other hand is a cold process and is none the worse for operating outside its large window. The con of the Epson is that it uses more ink to keep the nozzles from clogging. So if you don't print often, it is suggested that a CISS might not be a good idea even for an Epson or even the Epson might not be a good candidate.

For the Canon, instead of getting a CISS, invest in an extra set of cartridges that you keep on the side. ( Ideally storage clips and a small sealed plastic container) That way, as soon as the printer runs out of one color. Change ALL of them. This minimizes the amount of waste ink and extends the life of the waste ink pad. If you don't want to invest in a whole set then the 6 other colors not including Red and Green, is good. At a minimum, the most important spare colors to have on the side is Light Magenta and Light Cyan. For some, they may want to have two of each before the other colors run out. With this, you likely won't miss a CISS much.

I will go along with what everyone is saying to you about CISS on the printer, its a royal pain in the ass to keep a CISS operational on this Canon it will work but sure as night follows day if youre not vigilant trouble is a certainly.
A lot of people use replacement cartridges and find they work fine, but OEM cartridges are by far the best option.
Cartridges fitted with auto reset chips sounds great till you forget to check the level of ink left in a cartridge yourself after you turn the printer on to print something, because remember the printer will show all full cartridges on power on.
I use the ink from cityinkexpress myself and have never had any flow or clogged print head issues with the inks and would recommend it to anyone as a very good quality ink, saying that they dont however sell pigment black ink..

Go to the shop of precision inks, there are the right ink sets.
And for the other set with refiilable cartridges: most users in this forum prefer original canon cartridges to refill and reset. Because they have a good ink fliow.

I think I am gonna go with this:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/8Color16oz-Refil.../200402226420?pt=BI_Toner&hash=item2ea8e74cf4

and a set of these:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/8-Syringes-Needl.../200522536892?pt=BI_Toner&hash=item2eb01317bc

So this ink is actually good? You mean its easy to refill the original cartridges and reset them? But it does not have the opening on top to refill, is there something I am missing here? I did notice they don't have empty cartridges on this site.

Also the canon does not use pigment black ink anyways right?

This is because every time a cartridge is replaced, the printer runs a cleaning cycle. If you replace them one at a time, more cycles are run. If you replace them all at once, one cycle takes care of all of them.

For refilling you have to look for the right manuals and hints .. for the first time you have to pay attention to potential problems .. but my english is not so good to explain in detail..
..and you have to buy a resetter for the chips on the canon cartridge..I have no problems with resettiong 5 colors/cartridges but I don't know if the resetting is as easy for 8 colors/cartridges...
