My Canon Pixma Pro 10s has started to print with bands of ink missing and also smudging / spattering the ink around the edges of whatever image / fonts it is printing. I have taken it to a printer repair shop and they informed me it is most likely a clogged / partially clogged nozzle (only does it on the Magenta colour though). They were going to try and clean the print head but on closer inspection found the ink ports are an oval shape not round like most other printers and so none of their printer cleaning kits work with it. I ended up taking it home unserviced and still with the same problem.

I have searched the Internet for a cleaning kit specifically for the 10s given it has unusual oval-shaped ink port but can't seem to find one anywhere (I am in the UK, maybe one is available in other countries though?). Has anyone ever done a self-clean on a 10s or another printer with similar oval ink ports? There are plenty of home cleaning kits with round tubes to fit round ink ports but I can't see anything with a suitable oval shape.

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob and welcome, well so far you still have your printer intact and it’s a good job that repair shop didn’t know their arse from their elbow because they sure would have made a balls of the repairs and you out of pocket..

There are many things that could be wrong with your printer, so first DON’T print anything further like sample prints until you can this this issue fixed properly.

The best thing you can do for us here is to print and post a nozzle check up here for inspection, that will give a far idea what might be causing your problems.

Plus tell us something about your printer, how old she is and how often do you print and what ?, text or photos and are you using OEM carts and inks, the best way to save your printer is to thread carefully and don’t do anything that might comprise the condition of the print head..

P.S. Nozzle prints are the only thing safe to print...

Hi Mr Hat,

Thanks for the quick reply. I actually ran the cleaning cycle a few more times, waited a day or two, printed, cleaned, printed again (and again). This was the advice of the shop, to just keep printing and cleaning. It seems to have actually worked and the print looks normal now! Thanks for the reply though :)
