Hello everyone, First time I am posting here;

I’ve got a Canon PIXMA MX926 printer and I purchased a replacement print head. Part number QY6-0086. It’s the same part number that was originally in the printer so I know it’s the correct one. When I installed the replacement print head, my printer did not accept it and said it’s not compatible.

Can anyone suggest why this has happened and how I can get around it

I have read on this forum on another post, that other model print heads can be compatible as well but for some reason my printer is not accepting the replacement

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum, husaskin.

replacement print head
Where did you purchase the print head. Link please.

Have you communicated with the seller? This is the first thing to do.

A complete explanation of the issues you were having that lead to buying a replacement would be useful in why you are having a problem now. Sometimes the problem may be elsewhere other than or in addition to the print head. An example is an irreparable electronic failure of the logic assay board that may propagate to a print head or vice versa.

I purchased the print head from eBay. It was about $40. After I spoke to the seller and explained it didn’t work, I received a refund. So I didn’t waste money. Yes there is a possibility that it wasn’t a genuine print head I understand that, but the description indicated it was compatible.

I have not been able to print properly for a long time. So I took the print head out and cleaned it with water etc. I watched a few YouTube clips and it seemed relatively easy to do. After drying it properly, it still doesn’t print well. Blurry and jagged lines. Same issue.

Maybe I didn’t wash it enough? I don’t know.

Could you upload scans of a nozzle check and a text document, for instance Windows Printer Test Page?

Purchasing a head from eBay is a sure certainly that the print head all dough genuine, its guaranteed to be refurbished and therefore the chances of it working properly are zero..

Try the Canon website because its fortunate for you they are still available new, but at a considerable higher price than $40, buy cheap, pay twice..

A used print head and risky. You were fortunate to get a refund. :thumbsup

There are only genuine Canon print heads and no aftermarket version. The questions are whether new or used and if functional or not.

The devil is in the details and reason I asked.
  • Do you use OEM Canon cartridges or aftermarket? Do you refill?
  • Any error codes or repeating flashing of light on the printer?
  • Did issues appear suddenly or did they gradually appear and get worse? Are the issues stable, ie not changing?
  • What paper type and printer settings has this occurred with? Be as specific as you can.
  • Have the issues ever improved or vanished, even temporarily? If so, what was different during that time?
  • Have you tried anything else besides flushing the print head? Cleanings, print head adjustment, new cartridges, different papers, different settings, etc.
As forum member PeterBJ asked, please print a nozzle check, scan, crop and post. We need to see the entire nozzle check, not just any problem area. The Windows test print is also useful to post, or an image demonstrating the issues.

Did you ask Canon support for replacement of the printhead? Here in Germany it is 89€ including all shipping costs.

I was trying to avoid a "considerable higher price" because I may as well then buy a new printer, Anyway, so I got my money back so its all good. Lets move on from my first purchase because its not really relevant anymore. I've put original print head back in. I'm back to square one, as to why my printer is printing badly and IF I need a new print head or not.

1. Yes OEM print cartridge. No refill

2. No errors or lights flashing - It functions normally

3. There was a period where I didn't use the printer for a while, maybe its really clogged ?I think it just suddenly happened but I can't be certain. Because if it was gradual, I not have noticed straight away. One day I decided to use it and seen it was bad - The issue is stable. Does not change

4. I use normal plain A4 paper. No particular settings, using default / normal printing - even test pattern is crap.

5. Has not improved or vanished.

6. I have not tried new cartridges yet. I've done a print head alignment via settings. I did not use different paper as I don't have any different types. I use standard plain paper. I've done deep clean via settings as well.
