Yes that is interesting. As with you my dye inks print very well. Thanks for doing that! It seems to suggest that the flow is not optimized for the pigment ink - which would have more 'drag' than dyes - cartridges by default.

I'm going to focus on making sure ink flow is perfect, I think I have over-saturated my cartridges which may make things worse.

My final solution has been to abandon the canon mg6150 for BxW pigment photo printing and revert to my 3yr old epson r265 which does a much better job at higher res and with CISS using pigment inks made for this printer! Overall I'm rather disappointed by the canon and the hassle it has been to get consistency, having to deal with the endless refilling.

Regarding the inks I have found none of the inks I have used to be as good as the canon ink in terms of richness of black however the black pigment (from china) I'm using for the epson is as close as I can get and is good.

If you get Canon ink in the 130ml. cartridges then it becomes affordable to use and up 65% cheaper than standard OEM cartridge ink.
With your B&W prints on the plain paper you could try to a lower dpi in your pics to get better halftones, say 90 to 120 dpi.. ;)
