With my ip4500 "line printer" I have certainly tried to keep the contacts clean, both on the PH and in the carrier...but I will clean it once again..

Like I said it was just a wild random thought but could there be a short that has developed behind the board, due to moisture, salts that were in the water, etc... Anyones guess but I suspect the only way to be sure would be to do a tear down which would be a lot like killing the patient to find the problem...

thanks for wild random thoughts anyway .. a kind of short was one of my first assumptions too.
But what can I do?
Only good thing is that the printer don't indicate any error which would stop printing.
Until now...

BTW here is an example of printing images with the "line printer / printhead",
- upper print with setting on plain paper: black lines on top and on end of paper,
- lower print with setting on photo paper: black lines all over (except white areas)

Lukasz has sent me some information about the PH contacts, especially cli-bk.
I will try his sealing test in the next days..

@Petergum if this problem is still there even after changing the magenta cartridge then it’s possible that there is a crack between the ceramic plate and the nozzles, which obviously can’t be fixed either.

Have you tried the print head from the other printer in your current one to see if you can get a good print out from that, it’s worth a try..

@The Hat - the printhead from the second printer didn't work at all, I couldn't get past the flashing lights error - B200 10 orange/green cycles. I have bought a new printhead and tried that but the result is the same as the original i.e. no black and magenta shadows. I've attached a copy of a word doc I've used as a test - and the new printhead printout of it below - thanks for your help, Peter

@Petergumit would look like you may have damaged the logic board in that printer while attempting to print with the previous damp print head.

The only other thing you can do would be to try and use the other printer with the new head in it and see if that will work properly for you, it’s very lightly that the new head has been damaged and won’t work at all, but try it anyway, it may surprise you yet..

@The Hat - yes I thought that might be the case. I will try the printhead in printer 2 but don't hold out much hope as I tried swapping the original printhead into printer 2 and couldn't get past the B200 error which seems like a hard fault on printer 2. Printer 2 has been evicted by the other half and is currently residing in the garage so might look at it later, cheers
