Canon MX860 WiFi Stopped

agreed, if the WIFI card in the 860 is not working then it is game over.

give it another shot, using the canon PDF. when i first attempted this i had errors, i gave up and went with a USB cable. 6 months later i gave it another shot, wiping out the old and following step by step. then it worked.

you probably know this already, but the SSID comes from your wireless router, the printer does not have an SSID.

the printer needs to connect to the SSID broadcast by the wireless router. most WIFI routers run DCHP, which will dynamically assign an IP address to clients, like the 860

if all else fails, send an email to canon support, they've helped me out in the past, even on stuff way out of warranty, like the MP830

This shows my short skirt on wireless printers. I can see an HP printer broadcasting its SSID right now from a neighbor. Seems they have something called WiFi Direct. It is unsecure - bad! I swear I've seen Canon printer SSID's in the past, and a Google search does provide examples of this.

But all this is neither here not there. Even if there is no broadcasting SSID of the Canon printer I still have never seen the WiFi wireless router's access point's SSID in the Canon IJ Network Tool during setup. I've seen other SSID's but not the routers! The router's SSID is broadcasting in the open as I can see it on my Kindle.

Will follow the instructions to a T that you linked after resetting the printer settings to default and uninstalling the Canon apps.

Is there a utility to completely remove all remnant Canon files even after an uninstall? I've heard there is one for HP that helps with re-installs after problems arise.

Thanks for the email address to Canon. I'll give it a try if things don't (finally) work.

looks like some printers HP, etc do broadcast their own SSID, not sure about canon.

here's a printout of my 870 LAN settings, might help you to compare your 860. shows my router's SSID and the assigned IP of the 870.

to wipe clean, remove the 860 printer, remove the 860 drivers, then follow the PDF. better yet try it with another PC/laptop.

canon support email, worked great for me. they get back in under a day, then usually give a phone number to call to walk through if needed

No other computer to try with. He has only one - a notebook. The printer's wireless function worked until last week.

If I could enable WLAN Link Status I think I would be home free. Frustratingly, nothing done has enabled it so far. Next time I go over to his home I will follow EXACTLY the instructions you provided.

While I can see other SSID's, I cannot see the access point I want (the wireless router) -- I cannot choose the wireless router in IJ Network Tool during the auto set up. Maybe if I can get the WLAN Link Status active then I could at least manually set the access point.

Sure did.

A reboot of the router and the printer did not resolve. If it was a router firmware update that caused the issue then I haven't seen anyone else complaining on Google searches.

I was able to see the broadcasted SSID of the router and able to connect with my Kindle, a virgin at that time to that specific router (never seen before, never connected to), I brought over to detect SSID broadcasting and connection issues.
