Canon MX 922 prints double characters.

If you can't solve the problem with the pigmented black nozzles and all the other nozzles check out OK, change the paper type from plain paper to Matte (or Matte photo paper if that is how the paper type is shown in your driver software). Print one text page and see if it is satisfactory. The pigment based ink is only used with the plain paper setting so you will be using all the other colors to create black text. I have a Canon ip5000 that has a less than perfect nozzle check with the pigmented ink cart. It is, however, an excellent color printer. I just treat it as if the pigment ink cart isn't in the mix, and it all works just fine.

You've done what you can, except for trying fotofreak's suggestion.

One forum I browsed via Google said their problem was caused by both the Pigment Black and the Photo Black cartridges being used to form the double letters. His solution was to use an empty Photo Black cartridge when printing text. Not as good a workaround as fotofreaks as the suggestion by fotofreak will allow for continued text and graphics while the other suggestion will cause strange images without Photo Black.

If the printer is still under warranty then call Canon Technical Support ASAP.

As I noted in my post suggesting changing the setting from plain paper to Matte (or any photo paper for that matter) the pigmented black cart is only used with the plain paper setting. Setting the paper to other than plain paper uses the dye-based inks for photos, graphics, text, etc. The down side is that the pigment based black ink is waterproof, whereas the dye-based inks will run if water gets on the printed page.

Glad we were able to help. With the new paper setting you will not use up any of the black pigment-based ink, although the printer does use some of it when it does automatic head cleaning cycles. A small price to pay instead of having to buy a new printer!!

I do not know about the MX922, but for my MP830, Pigment Black is also used for the settings Envelope and Transparency, although I do not have a setting "Transparency" when I just looked.

Mariya may/should notice the black color is lighter than expected if this occurs.

Otherwise, brilliant workaround suggestion, fotofreak.

@stratman - thanks for the kind words. I've never used the envelope setting on any of my inkjet printers because my laser printer has a straight paper path and handles envelopes and other thicker stock well. When purchasing a new laser printer I've always taken card stock and envelopes to the store and tested them on demo printers. Many of the really low end laser printers don't apply enough heat to set the printing on thick stock or envelopes, nor do they have an adequate paper feed gap.

It makes sense if there is an envelope setting on inkjet printers to use the pigmented inks as they are waterproof. Also I don't know of any envelopes that are coated for inkjet use.
