Canon MP730, Jammed printhead

Acquired a moderately used Canon MP730. Seems to be in very good condition. Previous owner had printhead profesionally replaced three weeks ago. Printhead now remains at far right position, and orange alarm flashes persistantly. Display says "CHECK PRINTER, PRESS RESUME KEY." That doesn't help. Opening the lid and scanner to access the prinhead does not cause the printhead to move to the center of the carriagee where it is accessible. Printhead seems welded into position at far right. It feels and appears that all cartridges are firmly in place. I'll disassemble if someone might give me a clue. Thanks.

Can you move the print head carriage when the power is turned off? Don't force it. But if you can move it then you can take the print head assembly out by doing that. Once the print head is out then turn the power back on and see if the light still flashes. If not it seems the print head is bad. If you can't move the carriage then you need to disassemble the top of the printer to remove the print head.

No, it will not budge. Disassembly of the top seems to be the only recourse. I already have removed the right top panel exposing the main circuit boad, but I hesitate to proceed without some advice. It would seem that the entire top including ADF and scanner need to be removed. No problem, I've built my own desktops for years, but I'm wary of these complicated printers. Thanks very much, Tin Ho.
