I checked out the Canon Europe site and it seems the top models of the European version Maxify range can do 2 sided 1 pass ADF scanning. For instance see the Maxify MB5450, scroll down to scanner specifications.

I'm pretty sure my MB5150 can do duplex scanning.
The instruction set in the link you provided discusses Manual duplex using the ADF, not Automatic Duplex. You must physically feed the documents back into the printer after scanning one side.

HOWEVER, the web site for the printer states it does do single pass 2-sided scanning and does have x2 CIS color scanners, so it does do Duplex scanning and printing. The specifications page for the scanner does state scan speeds in Duplex for the ADF.

The manual, or you testing it out, should clarify if the printer will do auto duplex via the ADF. Sure seems like it should.

... The ink levels can be seen thru the carts. So why bother, when you just open the door and it's in your face. You don't even need to remove the carts to check...

What carts do you use where you can see the ink level ?

On the setup carts (on the box announced as the "regular", non XL's, nowhere on sale, and marked "SETUP" in the plastic) it can't be seen from the front.
