I'm working with a Canon iPF6350 printer and for whatever reason it cannot print dotted lines. I'm working on an Apple desktop computer with Adobe InDesign CC 2015. I have exported the file to high quality PDF to print, it shows up fine on screen, but it keeps on botching up the dotted lines when I print. Everything else prints fine except for that.

This is a recent problem, I haven't had it happen to me before. The only change that has happened between now and before is that the computer has recently had a system update. It was running on a very old operating system before. Along with the update, I upgraded to Adobe Creative Cloud from CS5. However, I created these files after the update, I can't see how that would be the problem.

Nothing has changed with the printer. I'm not sure if this is a problem with my computer or the printer.

Hi and welcome, your problem I reckon is not your printer but saying that I assume you have loaded the latest drivers for the new O/S ?

When you say it shows up correctly on screen, is that when viewed as a PDF or as in InDesign itself, have you tried printing your document from InDesign first, you could try several ways of exporting the file, try exporting to Illustrator and print from there or save as an EPS, PDF or Tiff, inside Illustrator.

By trying all of the different formats you will be able to narrow down where the corruption is occurring and hopefully be able to eliminate it, my money is on the new InDesign not been installed properly because PDF’s are usually very solid and reliable..

Thanks for your response!

The dots are showing up correctly on screen in every program that I bring it up in; InDesign, Illustrator, PDF...and I've tried printing directly from all of them, they all end up with the same result. I've even tried changing the stroke into a vector, same result.

Also, another added detail, I use a program called imagePROGRAF Advanced Preview to place my items before I print. The dots show up fine on screen here as well. But considering it's the last program it goes through before print, maybe it's what's causing the problem?

I just might agree with your assumption that it could be Image Prograf, try turning off print preview first to see if that cures the problem, PDF’s have all of their fonts imbedded in them when created so something else is causing your problem.

Have you tried to print the PDF say from another printer, you can sent it to me or someone you know to do a test print, it’s not always easy to trouble shoot a problem like this, it usually end up being something simple in the end.

You might have to uninstall all of your Application and then do a cold boot and then install each program one by one, printing the effected PDF in each App. before commencing the next installation.

Keep going and you’ll get there soonnn.. ;)
