Canon iP4000 think I've got banding problem

If fairly good, maybe it is the inks you are using.

Yes, I would consider the inks suspect.
I never heard of City Ink Express...I wonder who mfrs their ink ?

Thanks Jflan and on30, it's very nice of you to continue offering suggestions, I have bought a refurbished iP4300 on eBay from Digital River, a Canon Outlet here in the UK. I did check up on the price of a printhead and it was a lot more than the iP4300.

As for the refilling of the iP4300 cartridges I will have to join the fray and see how I get on, I do like to try to fix these things, up to a point, having reached it with the iP4000 I am just off out to make some more photographs with my TTV contraption, I really do enjoy using it.
