IMO you need always post processing for crop cameras over 10 mps.
LR does a very good job (and easy).
It will cost me the upgrade from 4 to 5, but this is a small price to maximize the output of the camera.
7D II is on stock everywhere, but I do not expect a price drop soon this time.
A few years ago there was a big difference between brick-and-mortar and internet shops.

Anybody coming down my chimney on Thanksgiving is going to get a nasty surprise.

It is just under 5 weeks till Christmas Eve when Old Saint Nicholas, aka Santa Claus, comes down the chimney. Wow, less than 5 weeks!

Snow - we got 10 cm. Buffalo got 6 feet. Gotta love that lake effect.

Agree with the big price differences in the past. Not so much now. Not many brick and mortar stores either.

Strong rumours that Adorama is selling 7D11 for around US$1,599 with additional goodies, phone orders only.

Once the price slide starts others tend to jump on the bandwagon.

For our US cousins Black Friday and Cyber Monday is nigh. Biggest retail bargains of the year. Beats out Christmas. I can hear the salivating, and I live 80km from the NY border.

I tried out the HDR facility (High Dynamic Range) in the 7D II.

In this mode the camera took three shots in 3 tenths of a second, one at normal exposure, one under exposed and one over exposed. The three were then processed in camera to give a HDR fourth image.

The result is below, just a casual shot, not claiming 3dogs standard of artistic charm, but it may well be a useful facility in the future. Normal image first, HDR second, as if you need to be told! The auto alignment clips the image. Incidentally you can adjust the HDR characteristics.



And the last one is of a dove that decided it wanted to get in the picture. All taken through the double glazing.

You are forgiven, but only because you are conducting field testing, and we wouldn't want the subject matter to be distracting us from the outcome

That is handy setting to have available, with that you can bracket HDR to use as a guide to post process on your uncalibrated (presumably corrupt Raw) low end monitor, and print from your consumer grade printer to produce a series of individual one off art prints.....

Thankfully, now we are awakened to a new and exciting option, keeping ALL prints, as what we thought were failures, you know stuff like OOF, misframing, no subject matter, washed out colour and all that stressful stuff, can now be a thing of the past, each one a New Age Dali..........forgive my ramblings I am old and have lost touch with quality so i will need to re read Zen and the Art of Motocycle Maitenance to get myself back on track there and perhaps Puckoon for a reality check,

A neat ability tho, built in HDR, be nice if it was available in the FF cameras...save a lot of time and effort when you really do have something spectacular that you want to record.

................. by the way how is YOUR asthmarism getting along? seems to be an outbreak of foot and mouth, but then a liberal dose of down grading is the solution to unhealthy predispositions and lurking compulsions and Disney Syndrome
......nice talking to you I'm off to uncalibrate my screen and printer for the third time this morning, I FOUND the random button on my munki, .jpg on my camera and printer manages colour.....I no longer stress over colour management and its SUCH fun, almost like playing with Hipstamatic on my iPhone 4...Crikey! there I go, now I have contracted asthmerism, foot in mouth AND photography for the masses too, perhaps i'll take a cold shower instead, have a Danish Nutella sandwich and find some traffic to play in till this bout of nose in the air passes, poor 'ol @Smile is the latest to come down with asthmerism, he now goes Gray Market for his morning 'Brekky fix.

See post #71 - Calibrating and Profiling, I suspect that in America, in the hotter parts folks get Asthma from owning good gear, and develop nasal issues. As I am of the belief that you, like me think the 7D II is a pretty top shelf camera and desire to own one to get better results, and could well be host to this lurgy. The entire post started as a thumbs up to you as the HDR feature has real appeal for capturing a good range of "sets" and also shooting a quicky HDR to open up the shadows in camera.

How good is the HDR at expanding the DR? the brickwork looks good, as do the metal poles. The bare timber rhs, look a tad yellow?
Sorry to say was in a sanguine mood and dumped......made me feel better tho.

Sadly YES @The Hat............Nutella in all its forms will lose its taste, once you develop the nasal THING.
