Canon 7D Mk II

This is strange: When I view stratman's post #5 in Firefox, I see only an empty post. When I view the same post in IE I see a big smiley with one rolling eye.

We use the same OS and browser. I see it. Maybe you have a setting on Firefox that prevents seeing the GIF. Try clearing cache/cookies?

yes, 7D Mk II (dual pixel AF) which has the potential to offer impressive auto focus during video capture, so it is able to assess subject position and distance from every captured frame which would be a major selling point for keen video graphers.And I would like to say, 7D II is the better option than EOS 7D and Nikon D7100

Certainly a price premium for the 7D Mk II over the Nikon D7100. Been a long time Nikon user and left the world of video years ago. What would I benefit from from the Canon over the Nikon?

I tried clearing cache/cookies, but that made no difference.

I have now solved the problem. It was a missing permission to show images from the website the smiley was linked from. I found the web address from IE. I had visited that website before using Firefox, and while checking out properties of some of the smileys I might inadvertently have changed a setting that blocked image content from that website. I found out it was not a problem with the Firefox settings in general, as this post from Łukasz showed an animated GIF that worked.

1. Nikon has higher resolution at 36 megapixels where as 22 for Canon.
2.The Canon shoots faster at 6fpfs (frames per second) where as to Nikon 4fps.
3.The Nikon has slightly less high noise.
4.The Canon weighs slightly less.
5.The Canon has more autofocus point.
6.The Nikon has a greater dynamic range.
Beyond the stats, both cameras have been used for awesome magazine covers and editorial spreads. Both provide a sharp, clear, vivid picture when used in the hands of a capable photographer.

Which canon are you refereeing to. If the 7D2, then:

Point #1 - the differences you mention as FEW in my humble opinion are HUGE.

Point #2: The Canon shoots at 10fps.

Points #3 and 6: Could you post a link to the references you mention. As far as I can find out the 7D2 is so new there have been little or no empirical or objective tests on things such as noise at various ISO levels, DR, efficiency of the AF characteristics, etc, etc.

I know Canon has published their version. Now we need independent corroboration that their marketing department has not become over enthusiastic.

Some forums already have participants saying they own the camera. Go figure!! The only evaluators I have read claiming access to a copy also add the disclaimer that is is a pre-production version supplied by Canon, and the final shipped version may vary.

However, I am frequently wrong, and would be only to happy to visit a credible site that has tested a production model of the 7D2, as I will probably purchase one if the evaluators do not detect a hidden flaw.

For MOST amateur shooters including myself Gear is NOT the problem. It is lack of talent and ability!

Indeed, my equipment never is the reason I miss or spoil a photo.
And in Lightroom I can crop half of the photo and print on A3+ without visible noise with my 7D at ISO 800.

Having used a 5DII since it was released I would find it hard to go back to the 1.6x I just feel more at home with a 24 mm giving me just that focal length.

Whilst your point on camera vs photographer giving results I agree but with one small difference. When I started horse riding I was fortunate to have a wise tutor. He put me in an Aussie Stock saddle, one size too small. It was a snug fit and held me fast in place while I got to experience balance, and find confidence free of the fear of falling, I learned fast that way and it allowed me to explore, and that took me into educating horses in a shorter time than would have been possible otherwise.

Cameras are a bit like that, did the whole film thing, had my own wet dark room etc. Didnt really start to learn to be a photographer till I got into digital, I can shoot edit and evaluate more in one day than I could in a year of film, feedback is immediate, so the learning process is faster, for me the quality of the gear is as critical, how does one learn to get good brackets of 10 frames if the camera only delivers 2 or 3, how does one get to learn sharp if the lens is not stabilized, fast and accurate....summing it up Bill Dorrance said proper practice gets perfect performance, improper practice ensures mediocraty.

I agree with that, as it is what I found to be true on my journey. Some folks just have so much built in Art that they could get a winner using the cut out base of a Coke bottle taped onto a shoe box, not me, hard yards for me, harder still for others, we all benefit from good gear I believe.
