Details;
Canon ip4300 printer (new purchased a few years ago, just placed in service to replace the same model with maxed out waste ink pads.
Ink Owl auto resetable carts (no need for a chip resetter) PGI-5 & CLI-8)

Carts are replacing older 3rd party (that needed a resetter) where the sponges apparently dried out causing printing problems. So far I have had 3 carts go empty with no indication they were unlike the older carts which were always 'spot on' when it came to showing the ink reservoir levels. I contacted Ink Owl (upstate NYS) about the problem they reset themselves when they are removed form the caddy. One problem was I wasn't aware of then being auto resettable so I as I did the past 8-10 years 'reset' the carts before I filled them. I told them about my mistake and was told that shouldn't be a problem.

Has anyone come across this problem that the printer is not showing low ink levels? The indicator always shows full no matter what. All other printer functions are ok, no known issues.

Now that you got a brand new printer, you need to look after it like it was gold dust..

ARC chips work in many ways but mostly the new ones should show ink levels till they go empty, and you then remove the cart to refill, then reinstall and the chips should show full, again, but the ones you have are not behaving like that. No idea why ?

Using your carts till they go empty is a bad idea, you should remove and refill your carts when they show low ink, otherwise you’ll run into ink starvation issues that can burn out the new print head..

I’d recommend you use only OEM carts and use a resetting before refilling them, now if you don’t have a resetter then I can provide you with one…

Just use our PM system to send me your postal address and I’ll send you one, free of charge.. I got one going spare.. then you won’t have to guess or have issues with refilling anymore.. Your choice.. ;)

Printer is new, the model is 15 years old. I have been treating it like gold. Understood about letting carts going dry, but that was due to the lack of indication to ink levels which wasn't my fault. I was just going to find another source for empty carts.

I thought Canon OEM carts are only good once?

The old carts worked fine for years I had more than one source for them and this never happened before..

What do you mean by 'Canon carts only good once ?.
CLI8/PGI5 OEM carts can be resetted and used many times, because their sponges are much better quality than third party products. You can accept the kind offer of The Hat and get his spare resetter, avoiding more weird issues with those autoreset chips.

As in you can't refill or reset Canon OEM carts. I never bought any.
As I stated, I never had "auto" reset carts before. If I knew that I probably wouldn't of ordered them and looked elsewhere. I've dealt with Ink Owl before with no issues, but only for ink.

BTW, I did on the offer.
