'Universal' Ink across printer brands - Epson, Canon , HP , Lexmark etc is the worst compromise possible.
'Universal' ink for a range of Epson printers - e.g. foto - dye - is technically possible, and possible color shifts can be corrected with icm-profiles - same for a dye ink to be used on a range of IPxxx printer models etc, every dealer understands the wording of 'universal' to his benefit. Same for the trick to use a dye black in place of the pigment black - the pigment black channel prints with greater droplets, pigments don't disperse on fibrous normal paper, but dye ink does , it prints, it looks bad - so what is the benefit ?
