The Canon G3000 is a 3 dye-based (CMY) plus 1 pigment black (BK) large ink capacity printer (MegaTank!). The initial cost of the printer is relatively high for its image performance but the ink refills are very inexpensive compared to other Canon models. The color inks (CMY) are reported to have less longevity, meaning the images will fade sooner than with Canon's other inks (eg ChromaLife). Text quality is very good with the pigment black cartridge.
The G models are not photo image printers. IMO, they are more for home/small office where you want good text with some color capability instead using only a monochrome laser printer. They would also make a great printer for someone who isn't fussy about image quality and wants a low maintenance printer they may only refill once a year. Test the printer out at a local store if you can before buying. It may or may not be acceptable print quality for your purpose.
The Canon MP990 should give better image quality and better fade resistance than the G3000.
