Can I disable the auto clean printhead on a Pro-1

Highest gamut and longevity can be achieved only with hi quality ink, I won't say only OEM ink because I have seen tests that for example EPSON ink + EPSON paper = no longevity at all. When EPSON + Kodak = very good print longevity.

I could dig the link to these respectable tests, but the point is everyone should make their mind if they need the longevity or the quality of prints. You can have both or just the Quality.

Third party ink and bad quality is the thing of the past. There is even methods how to make multipaper profiles (profiles that work for similar papers, and I mean you can print BW photos !) if your printer ink is controlled by RIP or is just very linear device.

When you’re on your first set of cartridges the printer steals 30% of the ink from these cartridges straight away so as to initialise the on board CISS system and that takes a huge chunk of the ink making you think that you use it all or that the printer has waste it.

Then after 45 days have elapse the printer does a complete system purge and cleans out all of that ink that was in storage in the CISS system and that too makes you think that another 30% of your ink has vanished out of the blue.

When you get your second set of replacement cartridges you’ll find that this ink will last a whole lot longer than it did on the previous set because the printer won’t run another System purge on you again, so all that ink that’s stored inside the CISS tubing is now available to you to use.

The printer is set to do a clean up after a certain amount of sheets has passed through it, so running one 4 x6 sheet is the same as one A4 sheet or larger and I reckon you’d be better off printing your photos 4 up on an A4 sheet which would cut down on the amount of cleaning cycles the machine does.

The printer is designed to always give the best quality prints so it makes sure that it can deliver all the necessary inks needed for whatever job it has to do for you and the reason behind that thinking is so you won’t waste any of your expensive photo papers with poor output.

I use 3rd party ink myself because I can’t afford to run the printer on OEM inks, nor do I use any OEM photo papers either, I reckon the best way to run this printer properly is to sell the prints you make for big bucks to cover your costs !

do you see any difference in the OEM and third party ink? or aren't you that particular? I want the best output possible.

I have used both Chinese and US made inks and found them both as good as each other and I am happy with the colour output that I get from them, I use only 3rd party paper and never profile so you could say that I am not very fussy, but then again I am my own worst critic.

I mostly use the I.S. inks 95% of the time (It’s cheaper) from the Pro 9500 ink set and the I.S. optimiser also, and I pre-profile (By eye) in Photo shop and then finalise with the print driver to get the exact colours I need, the prints turn out pretty close to what I can produce using the Pro 9500, using one ink for both printer is a huge saving..
