I did another short fading test - 1 week - with the same dye inks - a mix of various dye inks from the past, leftovers from tests etc, with budget cast coated papers - a LogicSeek 180gr (LS), a Labelheaven 180gr (LH) and a Labelheaven 230gr, listed are the luminance changes after 1 week ( in the 8 bit binary range from 0-255)

Paper-----LS180-------LH230------LH180 (Luminanace changes after 1 week)

----C-------7-----------5---------5
----M------18----------10--------12
----Y-------2-----------0---------0

Total------27----------15--------17

Black------21----------17---------8

The numbers show the intricate interrelation of the inks with the papers, pretty extreme - 21 vs. 8 -for the black ink, it's the same ink on all papers. The LogicSeek paper comes out as the worst in this test, as well for the magenta ink.

Please let me update you on the fading test I reported in posting #39 above, the patches are now exposed to UV and ozone for 6 weeks, the essence of the findings above remain, the ranking between the inks and papers are unchanged.
These are just some patches with (previously) black inks compared, with the Epson 106 and 664 inks
Black Fading 2.jpg

in the sequence from top to bottom on

- Sihl/Aldi PE glossy paper
- LH230 cc glossy paper both with the Epson 106 dye black (ET7750 printer)

- Sihl/Aldi glossy paper
- LH230 cc glossy paper both with the Epson 664 ink (L300 printer and similar)

It's quite and interesting variation of colors you can get with these inks and papers, the bottom patch shows quite some irregularity - probably imperfections in the coating of the cast coated paper, all patches were exposed for the same 6 weeks.

I'm concluding this thread with this posting - it is already getting longer than intended.
