Blue Streaks In Test Page

Hey everyone,

I have a problem with a Canon PIXMA MP600R, it cannot produce colour properly because it has strange blue streaks on magenta and yellow cartridges. I’m ready to resign this printer but I just want to make a final check if it’s able to be saved.

The problem existed a few months ago, early this year. I actually bought this printer off a relative mainly for its scanning capabilities, and was fully aware that it had a colour problem. We thought it might have been a clogged head but it doesn’t seem to be the case. The printer still prints black and greyscale fine, not presentation level, but for personal reading or something.

As mentioned before, it is a Canon PIXMA MP600R. I use it about once every 2 weeks, mainly to print texts, slides. Never photos since it is incapable of producing colour well.

As for the cartridges, I am using a 3rd party cartridge by INK-Power. Prior to this incident, my relative were using these cartridges without a hitch. The exact model numbers are as follows:

• INK-Power C-CLI8BK
• INK-Power C-PG15BK
• INK-Power C-CLI8Y
• INK-Power C-CLI8M
• INK-Power C-CLI8C

I printed and scanned the test page for everyone to see, just in case this is a case that is familiar with one of you.

I once has color contamination issue when I was doing manual cleaning of my printhead. A couple of cleaning circles and several prints should eliminate the issue, or else there is something much more serious inside the printhead (the wall between channels may have been broken that ink will leak from one to another).

Let’s start with the easy bit first, your choice of cartridges stinks because they are probably
the real cause of all of your problems.

You may also have a problem with you Cyan nozzles, but it’s hard to tell because it too could be caused
by these cartridges, the cyan cartridge is also leaking into your purge pads
and cross contaminating the Yellow and Magenta causing ther streaks.

Unfortunately there are no quick or cheap answers to your problem, one is to dump your current set
of cartridges and get a new set of OEM cartridges and the second is you may also need a new print head,
but your glass is still half full so alls not lost just yet..

Next while you’re waiting for your new carts to arrival soak the print head in about 2.5 cm deep of
Windex (Window Cleaner) also squirt some Windex onto the ink inlets where the carts usually sits.

When you get your new carts dry off your print head thoroughly and place it back into the printer
and run a normal head clean on all colours then do a nozzle print and check what the differences are..

Thanks for the replies! The blue nozzle is definitely contaminating the yellow and purple one. Printing seemed fine when I cleaned it, but it comes back again. Blue nozzle seems to "splatter" out. I've currently soaked the print head in window cleaner and I'll post what happens next after I deplete all the ink from the print head and put it back again.

Cause is likely air leakage but not to the outside but between the wall separating the reservoir and sponge at the top....where else?
CLASSIC problem with aftermarkets.
Now I have many unused sets of PGI-5 and CLI-8 aftermarket carts that I will be disposing of soon..maybe this weekend.. been sitting around for years. Even the 220/221 and 225/226 generation are plagued with this problem. They are NEW and with ARCs . I am taking a big loss on these but I'd rather not sell them, to someone and create turmoil. They are useable for their ARCs and also great for cleaning the inside of printheads as cleaning cartridges. Here the leaking actually helps.
