I agree with websnail, depending on the model printer.
On some printer models (Artisan 700-810, HP #88), the separate chip version 6 does not have to be pulled out. Just power off when printer issues warning.
In fact the HP #88 cartridge systems, you only have to open the ink well cartridge cover. (HP k5400,L7780 and l7680) these are the easiest to reset.
On my Epson R2880 the older chip has to pulled out to reset.
That is same action that would be doing if replacing a cartridge. (I do not pull it all the way out)
Press the ink button (on printer), break the connection of the contacts with the printer ink well for a few seconds then press the cartridge back in, press the ink button and returning to printing.
I personally prefer the separate chip model depending on printer.
