Hi there - I have found a series of exchanges with The Hat because I have a printing problem on my Pixma iP8750 - but not like any other indicated on this forum. I have had the printer since early 2015 and used it without any problems.

After using the CD printer tray on my machine at Christmas, I started to get the issues indicated on the attached scan of an A4 landscape colour print. There is a marked error down each print approximating to the side of the CD tray when it was used. However this changes position towards the bottom of the printout. Also, the left and right margins show a stepped edge as if the printhead is not travelling in the same line each forward and return movement.

After cleaning nozzles etc. and doing a factory reset; and checking my two Mac laptops (a new Macbook Air and a well used Macbook Pro from 2013 - so different MacOS systems) - I got nowhere, so started a web search that brought me here.

In desparation I have now bought a replacement iP8750 - and this allowed me to:

Exchange the print heads to check both work - OK.
A n
ew set of ink cartridges to check both work - OK
Print jpg and pdf files from both computers - OK, except for this problem on the older one.
Use different cables and Airprint on both - OK except for this problem on the older one.

It would suit me to get this machine working again - but I have run out of ideas. From your feedback on this forum, I guess it is probably a logicboard problem, and would appreciate any views?

OK let’s start at the top, no it's not the logic board..

Mac old or new, you shouldn’t be using Airprint as that print driver is totally crap, remove it and install the proper print driver from Canon website..

Now to your photo print problem, first you should print out a nozzle print check, and then examine it for issues on each colour block.

Next you need to clean the timing strip with window cleaner and a paper towel both sides, but be careful not to put too much pressure on the plastic strip while cleaning..

Now print another nozzle check and compare both for any improvement, then try your photo again and see if it prints ok the second time..

When your printer gives you any print issues, you should stop all test prints until your nozzle checks are all perfect, otherwise you run the risk of ruining the print head..

hi @sbelt
Since you asked for "views" : If the problem is not resolved with the prior posted steps, it would be great to know if you had any issues when printing with the DVD/CD print tray, e.g., a print head strike or jam. Damage or contamination to the guide rails (upon which the print head/carriage travels) at a specific point can cause such print issues.

Hi everyone ... updates:

The advice from The Hat was very helpful and the printer is now working well again. I repeated the nozzle checks I had done before - and all still OK! Access to clean the Timing Strip was a real challenge (at my age the fingers are not as flexible or agile) - but it has worked. Result, and thank you!
(Also - Airprint works fine for me, when I use it, tho I recognise that the media and ink options are limited for doing art prints, when I do use USB. The reference to Airprint in my earlier post was to indicate that I wanted to check all potential causes of my problem 👍)

Concerning the CD/DVD printer tray issue - done nothing since the problem at Christmas:
I set up to print onto special disks (containing a record of photographs for friends in France) - and the first one printed properly. However, the next one did not - and the tray that holds the disk inserted and appeared to print, but infact the printed image started at the centre hole of the disk and extended off the back edge across the tray holding the disk - a big mess to clean up! Having done a thorough clean (so far as I could), I tried another disk and same again!!! I ended up doing another clean up of tray and around before printing onto a self-adhesive DVD label to get the job finished.
I have just examined the disk tray from the affected printer, and the new one I have just purchased, and there is little difference - perhaps signs of some slight abrasion on the clear plastic strip on the leading edge - but the reflective patches are all clean.

I have not looked again since - but perhaps now is the time - and so any clues to what I'm looking for would be helpful. That side of the printer is very enclosed and not very accessible (as I found with the timing strip), so any suggestions welcome.

@The Hat already gave you the best advice in using the official Canon printer driver and not to use AirPrint. I would start there.
I don't have your printer yet, but several issues have been reported.
I would only use the recommended software for printing CD/DVDs on your printer i.e. Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX or My Image Garden.
Those applications may already address the problem, yet it is a must to identify that you are printing to the DVD and CD tray in the printer driver.
The other couple of factors are essential, yet I am not sure if the issue is that you have to line up the tray arrow to arrow from the tray to the printer, and also, you are not supposed to put the tray in until the application asks for it to be put in place. All in all it seems error prone.

With the issues you have had with it and especially with a lot of extra time spent on cleanups when it goes wrong, I would stick with DVD/CD labels unless this were for professional or business purposes.

Just my opinion, of course.
