Anniversary update on Standard Lamp Mark V..

Two year on and it has stood the test of time and everything that Mother Nature could throw at her, it’s just a pity it’s lasted longer than my dear old friend @stratman, I just hope we can meet again in the Pub way up yonder..

I'm shocked, amazed, and impressed! I don't know if there are many people that have successfully printed such a thing and had it last so long... especially out of PLA, no?

I got so use too the Feckin thing blowing over that I stopped caring, and that seems to have worked, maybe its staying upright just to despite me, it still looks pretty good being black, I taught it would have swelled and split in the heat..

Deafeningly should have been white…

Just an update on my lamp Standard…

Yesterday I went out to find one of the arms on my lamp had broken off, as to what caused it ?, because there has been no wind to speak of, and my suspicion was something big was using it as a take-off platform, it would have needed side pressure to brake it.


The arms are supported by chains that take the weight of the lanterns, so I reckoned that ruled out any downward forces, but if hit from the side the chains offer no support, it’s has to remain a mystery for now..

Needless to say a ten hour overnight print of a newly designed patch and 35 minutes to day and it’s hard to tell it was ever broke, back to 5 working lights tonight..

Great idea to have those chains supporting downward-force... and good point that it could have been a side-hit.

Just an update..

Nature has hit us with extremely strong winds and storms over the past few weeks, (Several times 120km plus) but the mark V has taken them all, but I don’t know how because by rights it should have sustained damage, all around the neighbourhood others have suffered considerably, but yet Johnny 5 still there..

I sometimes wonder how much more it can withstand, I’m not too worried because with all the knowledge I have gain from this mark V, I should be able to make it better next time, maybe do it in light grey and spray it white..

P.S. Still don’t know why it broke last time.. !
