All the right words to describe a CIS

In researching CIS systems for my Epson Stylus Photo 1400, certain words and phrases came up over and over, associated with highly rated systems:
Constant barometric pressure
Auto reset chips
UV inks

and so on.

I came across this system offered on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320563712907

which uses all the "Right Words."

I wonder if it is possible to get constant pressure by some fancy cartridge design, instead of having two chambers in the ink reservoir? Usually, it is easy to see those two chambers but for this system, I can't tell. Anyone have this system? Is the ink tank divided?

I'm not affiliated with any seller or mfr. I want to get a good, reliable CIS for my printer. I had a CIS for my older Epson R200. If I did not print for 5 days or more, I ALWAYS had to run at least two cleaning cycles to get a decent print. (Wasted a lot of ink!) I think this is because my CIS did not have a constant pressure/divided ink tank design. I'd like to avoid these problems for my next CIS.

The key thing to point out here is that Epson printers don't really need the Constant pressure systems at all... Because they are such a robust printhead with an excellent printhead to cartridge interface (ie: no air leaks) they can handle a lot more in terms of pressure differential.

The key reason you see so many of these constant pressure systems though is because they were a neat way of making it all seem rather special and make it possible to provide compatibility for other printer systems that were more pressure sensitive (eg: Canon pixmas).

Anyway, putting that aside, I generally recommend Rihac because they don't just do "all the right words" when it comes to marketing spiel but they have comprehensive documentation and support for their kits so if anything should go pear shaped, you aren't reliant on a company that puts more emphasis on making the sale instead of making the customers happy long term.

Hope that helps...

Oh and regarding the R200, chances are it was more down to poor ink quality or simple ink foam build up in the cartridge. The former is obviously down to finding a good ink to start with. The latter is something you can resolve by drawing ink through the exit port of the cartridge manually, essentially refreshing the ink in the cartridge and removing any foam into the bargain.

I'll be doing some work on how to resolve the foam thing soon as I've got the necessary part for inserting the cart as of today so keep any eye out for that... but to return to the topic in hand... Rihac is my advice :)

With Epsons simplicity and quality of ASSEMBLY and INSTALLATION is what leads to a good CISS. These factors can be controlled by yourself. Constant pressure is a gimmick it is not absolutely necessary if you don't use too tall a tank.

Check out this thread that I had forgotten. Reliable as heck and on the R200, there is no slapping of the tubes.

I don't know about all the technical stuff. I read alot of reviews and finally decided on Leonard John's Piano Book system with the Artisan 710. I have had zero problems with his system. It works so well and saves me a great deal. The quality is excellent. Leonard has been wonderful in terms of any support. I don't think you can go wrong with his system. LJHEnt.com

Thank you Anne, for the kind words.

I am glad you are enjoying the system.
