Is there a reliable aftermarket repair station for a Canon ip8500? I have been fighting with clogged heads, banding, etc. for two years. My need to print color was not that great but that has changed. Is this machine worth the repair cost or would I be better off cutting my losses and getting something else??:(

It is (was) still a top of the line Canon printer at a smaller foot print. You can buy a new print head from about $70 or $80. It will be like a new printer again. It is a printer to keep. If you sell it you may not be able to get much out of it.

I would be willing to spend $70-80 to make this thing work again. Where do I purchase a new print head? Direct from Canon??

Keep that IP8500 on going !!! It is a remarkable good printer and on pair with the latest Canon Pro 9000 concerning printing quality, because it uses the same printhead as the i9950 (A3+ version of the IP8500) and the chipped A3+ printer Pro 9000. NO chips on the cartridges, which is a big plus.

Try searching on ebay !

You should try Canon first, they lowered the price of the print heads awhile back. They usually are priced lower than other sites.
You have to call to order the head, they don't sell them on their web site, this is due to the different printers and print heads. 1-800-828-4040

I agree to try Canon first. Several months back, I bought 2 spares for my pair of i9900's in case they become hard to find in the future - I obviously plan on keeping these printers going for a long time.

I checked 2 of the web sites that I looked at back then, and one raised their prices by $30. This site still lists them for $75 in case Canon's price is too high.

I just ordered the printhead from Canon for $69.95 plus $7 UPS. Started out at $59.95 but in the check out it got bumped up $10

The other site mentioned for a replacement head wants $92. Hopefully this will solve my problems! Thanks to all for the advice!!
