Advice please - Epson 1400 or r1900 second hand?

HI Emulator: Epson 1400 or 1500W will do fine for an A3+ printer. Or something smaller like the Epson P50 or R260. I am afraid there are no longer any Claria based Epson printers using the old Epson architecture.

Hi Antennina: I see you are in the UK. Octoinkjet.co.uk does sell this fantastic Inktec ink in smaller quantities. Until now I had more clogs with dye ink compared to this Inktec ink in my Epson 1500W (virtually none). Yes the 1400 is the same as the 1500W in terms of print head and features.

Thanks for your help! Looking on Octoinkjet website I cannot find the ink listed - do i need to contact them and ask? It's a shame Inktec dont sell smaller amounts than 1lt - I could even get to their HQ to pick up (assuming the HQ listed on their website is also their warehouse base), as i dont live all too far away (i actually used to live in the same town they are based in many years ago!!) but I guess they are geared towards industiral use.
If i wanted to use pigment ink from other brands for now, which printer version ink would i need to select (as i found the ocp r2400 doesnt seem suitable) or is it down to the actual ink formula rather than printer type? Assume that is where the issue of compatibilty / clogging comes into play? Again thanks for your help & knowledge!

Hi Antennina: drop him a mail, as the inks are quite new and he just recently has started to stock these inks. You can use OCP K3 ink as well, but make sure you choose the vivid magenta version to obtain a greater gamut (better reds and blues and purples). If you want greater gloss: go for Inktec Powerchrome K3.

@pharmacist - again thank you for your help - have emailed them and no problem supplying the inktec ink but have asked me to check with you regarding which black ink to use as it seems you were looking into this and they didn't have your recent recommendations on it.

Hi Antennina: The only problem with Inktec Powerchrome K3 is the very high gloss of the PK ink. On pearl/satin papers this feature pops up and you will get significant gloss differential. However if you print on glossy papers, this feature is just great. You could replace the PK with Image specialists PK to have a more muted down gloss. However: I find the Inktec Powerchrome K3 totally acceptable and has quite good Dmax even on matte papers.

For example: Ilford Satin paper is quite good with Inktec Powerchrome K3 PK, but Moab Satin is suboptimal, so it really depends on the paper used.

Hi Pharmacist - as ever, thank you for your advice - how does it fare on matte paper? I am probably a bit of an oddity in that i am not really using it to mainly print photographs but am currently experimenting on all sorts of paper be it high gloss, gloss, matte & plain paper, mainly for crafts purposes making cards, backing papers, notebook covers etc and printing the odd pictures / cards on glossy - plus i'm playing around printing on fabric sheets though am finding that i get a lot of blotches (grrr). Experimenting with different Epson pigment inks so far was a bit hit and miss - leaking with some (at first I thought it might be an issue with the printer but standard non refill compatible dye cartridges i used seemed fine, so assume i was using the wrong type of ink), so wanted to try some inks others had success with. Dont think i'll have too much issue with the gloss unless it is a real problem on matte paper.

May I pick your brain for one last query...as mentioned i am getting blotches when printing on fabric sheets (on the edges and occasionally in the middle too) which seems as though it's ink leaking - at present I am using a cheap pigment ink marketed for the p50 and it prints fine when i print on plain, gloss or cardstock. I am using refillable cartridges bought from coralgraph (which i believe you also used for your dye comparison experiment) - I assume there is no issue with the cartridges and it's most likely to be the ink, as when i print with the cheap non refill compatible dye cartridges i get no blotches on fabric. Is there something i may have to look out for with the refillable cartridges when refilling or installing? Else i'll just wait and try the inktec inks and see if they make any difference or i'll just have to give up printing on fabric and stick to paper.

I would like to say,the inks for the 1400 are expensive and there are no bulk packages available however u can get more options in current printers like Workforce30,Workforce1100,Artisan1430,C88+ and many more.

We are talking about refill ink and refillables, so no expensive carts at all.

Actually Inktec PK is satisfactory black on matte papers, however MB will be better on matte papers.

Well both the 1400 and Artisan 1430 use the same cartridges T079x, what is the difference if you mention the Artisan 1430 has bulk packages (whatever this is: CISS, cartridge package deals ???).
