It certainly looks to be the case. I purchased both the XP600 and Canon 250/251 based printers around the same time and I can tell you confidently that at this point, the Epson is proving to be a better printer overall. The Canon looks to be cost reduced to the extreme and the original 250/251 carts are a pain. If you purchase the XL carts of the Canon then the outlay becomes much higher. For the Epson, you can get by just getting some aftermarket ARCs with a totally functioning ink out prism system....this would keep the printer working just like the genuine carts and reuse the genuine carts. The one additional purchase would be one XL cart for the pigment black on the Epson. Speedwise, they are close. So unless something comes up otherwise, the direction is clear. Note that these Epsons are different from the Workforce series. These Epson XP600, 800, do pigment as well as dye. I am going to put the icing on the cake and custom tint even IS Claria compatible so that they are even closer to Epson Claria. I am liking these Epsons so far. It didn't start that way...the first sample of the Epson I got was a dud.

If websnail gets the printer potty figured out for this Epson. It will likely seal the deal.

Ah, I was about to ping you about this... How do the current inks compare?... IS don't appear to have put the time in on these models and/or inks yet...

Oh worry not on that part... I shall prevail *cue: uncouth knight on horse looking all determined*

There is also the "potential" to turn the XP600 into a "pigment photo printer". It will then carry both a Matte Black as well as a photo black so no switching is thus required. Being a pure CMYK printer, as well as sporting a fair amount of nozzles, it certainly has real potential. I will carry this out down the road. I have focused on this XP600, 800 series because it has the right stuff in their standard formal ( dye CMYK, Matte Pigment for text) to replace the Canon AIOs ( since the new models are letdowns for refillers so far) and also have the potential to become an inexpensive archival photo printer as well. The workforce series do not use their black ink for nomral photos unless it is tricked into doing so.

This could be the model that makes prior Canon users take the bridge across because the new Canon desktop territory is getting rough...too rough for many.

For users of canon 551 carts, here is a german workshop for refilling:

http://www.druckerchannel.de/artike..._betanken_sie_canons_neue_single_ink_patronen

- on page 3 they cut the chip just to show that it will be destroyed by doing it.

- there also is a photo which shows the difference between standard and xl cart:
the standard cart has the wall to reduce the ink chamber, it is sealed - the rear wall in the standard cart is NOT sealed, ink will come out if you try to "expand" the reduced chamber.
I don't really know if you already considered this potential leaking..

Refilling method is "german / durchstich"

PS: 11ml of ink is ridiculous to call "extra large", 7ml is absurd..
..how low will they get in future - just a sponge with 1ml???

I have already covered that in my first thread, the hole in the standard cart is easy to fill as shown in this pic,

use either hot glue or Adhesive for the job, but youll still have to navigate the inner wall.. :(
