After you get it and if you decide you like it, I would strongly recommend that you buy a second one. This will provide you with a second set of cartridges and a spare print head, both of which are about your cost of the printer itself and someday when your printer has a problem, you won't be stuck in an emergency trying to decide either how to fix your broken printer or which new printer you want to switch to. I also recommend removing the styrofoam packing material from the box if you continue to keep your spare printer in it because the styrofoam will outgas in several years and leave a thin film on both the inside and outside of the scanner glass.

good advice from ghwellsjr, i have pulled all the Styrofoam from my many spares. yes, stockpiling spare printers can be addictive....

but.... hard to beat a $79 deal for a backup printer for nearly the price of a set of ink carts($60)

FYI, amazon is selling just the MX870 print head for $84, $5 more than the entire printer, ink carts and print head together

I feel ill every time I read a post like this and realise you guys have a lot of great deals

Here in rip off Britain it will probably be three times the price, and still touted as a bargain

Plus Canon don't have the same type of outlet as in USA, here they sell through Ebay.

Buy lots of them when you can at that price

i have had good luck with refurbished Canon MP830s. my first refurb'd MP830($99) lasted 3 years, logic board died after 22,000 pages and 160 refills. i just swapped over the print head and ink carts into yet another refurb'd MP830. still using/refilling the original 4 CLI8's, now over 200 refills.

hard to believe that the 4 CLI8 ink carts outlasted my MP830 after 22,000 pages.

for those with the new opaque carts looking to swap chips, this is a cost effective way to get 5 new OEM ink carts to swap chips onto. oh, plus you get a printer and print head as well.
