    After checking further the screech at the end is that bar underneath the white flaps. It decides to spin superfast for a second or two to make its presence known.

    I pulled the cover off and started it up. The printhead never goes more than a third of the way over.

    Also, one thing that does happen on occasion is that the back paper feed door detaches on one side. I can push that back into place though and it seems to stick.

    Thanks. Should the printhead move to the center when you open the top cover even when there is an error code? Mine is not doing that, but I am able to manually pull it to the middle and when I power it on it reverts to it's hidy hole.

    I tried calling Canon support, and they offered me their Canon upgrade program with an $1100 replacement. No thanks, I've got a lifetime supply of ink for this printer, and I really need to get it working. I had a second one that I borrowed the printhead from, but I didn't have the space to keep...
