Besides the moderate power backup are you really looking for surge protection from transients in your AC power line. Most, if not all UPS systems contain thus feature.

I use the Costco Paper for family and friends, at times for club discussions. I consider the surface to be more of a semi-gloss not a mirror gloss.
81/2x11 is about $18 for 150 shts
4x6 is about $13 for 300 shts.
2 new sizes have been offered online: 13x19 and 11x14?
This paper has...
I knew Ross wouldn't disappoint you!
Now, let's get back to the microwaves. My original diatribes (white or colored papers) referred to the microwaving only of dye inks that had been frozen or stored in a frig. The goal was only to warm up the ink quickly before an urgent refill-because the...
Rod, once again check out Ross Hardie's place: http://store.inkjetcarts.us/epson-starterkit-r210-r230-r310-r350-rx510-rx630-rx650--ink-p4393.aspx
He show a set of carts + inks that should solve your friends problem.
Also shown are various inks that can be used...
Strathman: Is this where we are at now? Trademarking on the forum? No! I offer you 'greedstick' Publick domain TM free!
Several pages earlier into this post I made some responses to the refill problems. One of which was quite satirical is repeated here.

To All: I dont care if Canon uses tungsten carbide plate over stainless steel cart shells. Using the OEM carts, a box of wooden toothpicks ($!/250) and your favorite ink in top fill mode you still win.
Remove the plastic ball (or drill a hole), stick the toothpick in and and view the present ink...
Different strokes for different folks!! I started with the Canon s9000 back in '02 and now use the Pro 9000 MKII. My initial search for a reliable quality ink back then yield OCP (available from rjettek.com in the us). I still use it, it's price of ~$13 per 16 oz is still very attractive. There...
Rod, do we dare suggest to Joseph that microwave the inks for 15 secs before using? Now I understand why you wear your sunglasses at home all the time!!
Seriuosly, Joseph, there is no real need to store your squeeze bottles in the frig, it's fine for the larger bulk containers. The working...
Reseters are available for our 9000, I've been using one for the last year, cost ~$15-21 used on the OEM carts. The older printers (s9000, i9900) did not have chips, the ONLY extra step is the resetting before you refill. Give your OEM carts TLC and they can outlast your printer!
At present I...
For a starter I recommend the Epson 3880. It will print to a max size of 17x37.4 in and my initial experiences printing on the trial rolls of Breathing Color canvas is a pleasure. Switching between matte and photo blk is handled by the printer. However it does not have a roll paper setup, I cut...
crexas, just a comment, if you choose a Canon printer the printheads are easily replaced-just like a cart. No need to throw the printer out. The OCP inks, as previously mentioned are fine inks, in the US I pay ~$13 per 16oz or 500ml for the dye ink use in my i9900.
I have an Epson R280 (dye ink...
OK, slocumeddie: 3 cheers for Ross Hardie!!! He is very generous with his time to those who call and ask questions. I started dealing him >6 yrs when refilling my Canon 9xxx printers. Last year, the availability of a reliable refill system for the 3880 became available , the equiv system for...
Interesting analogy, Mr. Hat. The 'hidden treasures' were from the regions of hell: war, famine, pestilence, plague and most definitely politics. The only true treasure that remained in Pandora's box was Hope--we may still find it.

Sounds more like a generous dose of insanity!!!!
BTW, OMG, LOL-----these 'words' just made it into the Oxford Dictionary.
Dont forget to 'frig' your ink and microwave your wine!!!

I recommend the purchase of the Colormunki photo, this single device will calibrate both your monitor and printer. The Spyder3 system has a separate device for the monitor and the printer, the monitor device performed well--the printer device did not, I had to repeat measurements far too...
Lynn, different strokes for different folks!! Within 6 mos. you'll be doing something else, within a year another something else. After a year or so, like ,myself and the others, you will have settled into your final routine--most important--enjoy the trip and print great pix!
Personally, I...
