Sure, but all these calculations are on estimation and not on real measurments. Canon says "printhead = lifetime and use X printing cycles" then the soft will do some adjustements based on these estimations. This will work very well for a hobby printer, even for a printshop who works with a few...
As you said, a rough idea is determinated. Firing angle and firing rate for the OEM inks are already "included" during production. And as plotters and printers are printing with very low speed no harm should occure by using well made 3rd party inks. They rarely will heat up untill the printhead...
In fact there are just two ways to make money with printers. Either sell them at a very high price or sell the inks at a high price. For consumer products (from the 50$ office printer up to Anapurna printers) the chosen way is making benefits with inks. For real industry stuff you pay the...
Some of the big american companies are in the hands of funds and trusts. So the money goes into marketing and other "useful features" instead of technical research and the boards have to be paid. There are some several issues with the latex printers (just to name this) and instead to kick out...
It is not a Mac or PC question, it's just that Canon developped a better driver for Windows users as they sell much more units to PC users. Canon isn't a classic graphic arts printer, their main business was CAD plotters and office printers.
If you use RIPs you will discover that Mac or Linux...
To canon-do: Do you remember? Best Match ever. I will remember all my life, I watched the match in the squadrons club during a mission in Djibouti. We were so drunk that night… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UVbA9ZZixI
That's not the best idea as this will come up to create à new profile every time you are replacing a line in view to have good ouput. That means that you might loose the savings you made with the ink by "useless" consumption of ink and paper.
The only way to know if the ink of any supplier is...
I'm using 4 3800 to do tests with our soft and I stated that clocked nozzles in the magenta cartridge wont harm the prints seriously. The reason is that the printer uses light magenta if the coulours you are printing do not exceed 30% of magenta in the composition. But even with 100% magenta...
There is only a risk if you lives in a place with very humide air aka the amazonas to cause some detoriationg as pigments don't "move". Even pigment inks can be used much longer as the date indicated and ther is some chemistry in the base which might be much more sensible than the solid...
Inkjet for commercial prints may be done with RISO printers. At the moment the lacks powerfull colors but at less in France that shall soon be resolved. Their printers are the fastest up to 190 sheets/minute, followed by RICOH I think, both of them have a problem with profiling and calibration...
Because there is some talking about maximising the gamut. Be aware of what you are doing when playing with density or something else. Waht you win one side you will lose at the other side. It's mathematics. In the screenshot below you can see two icc profiles compared. Same paper, number of...
It's not the weight but the thickness. Standard cardboard or Bristol or Offset is thicker as coated paper of the same weight. So if you can run 350g Bristol or Offsett you can run easily 400g coated paper, maybe up to 450.
You may look for the bigger oki printers from the 9xxx series at the second hand market. I used one of them more than 10 years ago (even foilstamping). Xante will work very well too (they are re-branded oki).

Hello,
I can announce that a new Software will arrive within a few weeks. With all the components one needs for color management. Calibration, caracterization, color converting, color picking, gamut control spot color management and so on. Available for Windows and Mac, to use with Xrite...
Some observations.
1) coated papers are not offset paper even if they are ysed for offset printing; These papers are "modern coated" and only some matt coated are suitable for inkjet printing. I've made a lot of prints on this kind of paper with very good results some years ago.
2) Real offset...
Hi piers, sorry to reply so late. As the plant is closed for holydays I can pick up the composition in one week (I don't remember the exact composition as I never did the mixing job, I only gave the orderers and I don't have the documents at home), but there is some potassium in. Anyway, your...
