Having found a few similar(ish) issues to yours and finding various ideas and answers on HPs own forum, it seems several people have commented that one solution by a fellow called Foxx solved their problems with cartridge faults and printhead errors.
You need to scroll down a few posts to find...
So when you switch the printer off, then wait 10 seconds and switch it on, if you then proceed to press the < button 4 times it will not allow you to enter the menu? I will have to take your word for it, but I am stunned that it will not allow you to enter the test/reset menu if you follow the...
Ahh, I admit I may have made an incorrect assumption. As you didn't mention the printer in your original post, I figured it must be the one showing on your profile (The HP OfficeJet 8600 pro) which does have a < (back) button as well as > forward, ? "Home" and a few other buttons. The button in...
Hi Flyboy.
I do not know but would hazard a guess from what you are saying that the printer is perhaps aware of a dry print head rather than empty cartridges. At the risk of suggesting something you have already tried, you might want to experiment with one of the hardware / firmware resets...
It seems this can also happen if you have used cartridges with an auto-reset chip that has "reset" while the cartridge is running low. As such the printhead then runs "dry" - dry firing can damage non-piezeo printheads (and perhaps piezo too?) and although I am not sure how the printer knows if...
This sounds like HP locking down printers again.
If the printer was still able to print on the low cyan and low magenta (and you just changed them rather than try to get the very last drops out), then fit these back in the printer, switch off, wait and switch back on. Providing those cartridges...
A short update. The test continues and as expected the plain paper is fading first - and the one facing South West is fading fastest. What is also not surprising but is still welcome news is that the cheap lacquer ("Auto Extreme") bought from Ebay is making a significant difference to fade speed...
Well I have made some test prints ready which are currently all in a dark room (not a darkroom). At noon tomorrow they go up, one inside the house in a room with only diffuse natural light, one outside facing North and one outside facing SW.
Each "test print" is a board with five types of paper...
@Ink stained Fingers
I agree with you that pigmented ink would be the ideal way to go - however my budget does not run to that really (buying a pigment based wide format printer), so it is very much a case of "making do" as best as I can. I was just hoping to find a way to use Epson's ink on the...
@The Hat
Thank you for your comments and thoughts. I appreciate the points made and realise that regular dye (non UV) is not aimed at being used outside, my curiosity was just peaked at the fact that the colour prints from my old Epson showed remarkably good resistance to fade - enough that it...
I know this sounds stupid (and it might well be) but there is a reason for me wondering and asking.
I have recently bought a lovely old DesignJet 500 and generally speaking it works very well - and until such time as I get through the many genuine cartridges I have, I am not going to mess...
Hi Edd. That could be very interesting, I need to have another look on EBay myself I guess. The professionally printed option works for large amounts but even the "giveaway" ones were going to be time based and/or customised to a specific outlet.
On option I have been considering is getting...
I just thought I would give some feedback with the inkaid as I purchased some to play around with. In short it does work - and if you are printing a fairly large bold area it seems to work VERY well once you get the application method sorted. Not unlike paint, it is easy enough to apply badly...
Thank you for that. I am going to see if I can find out a little more about the HP card printer - might be EXACTLY what I am after. In the meantime, I have ordered a small bottle of inkAID to see if it is any good.
I will do more Googling - thank you. I did not know that HP did that - could be exactly what is needed.
I have already tried the dye ink though it was with water based and not solvent based dye ink. I know that a who range of ink markers mark the PVC very well and I was hoping that there would...
Thank you for quick reply and link.
This product would work out slightly cheaper than the pre-coated cards but then each card would have to be "hand trimmed" which again for perhaps 50 promotional (disposable) cards per week is going to take some time to do it properly.
In truth, I probably...
Hi.
I have an Epson R285 and I am trying to find out if water based pigmented ink will print onto untreated PVC.
I tried searching on Google but for once found very little help.
I tried a search on here but the word "PVC" is too short a word for the system. PVC inkjet worked but didn't seem...
Hi.
I have a couple of inkjet printers Epson R285, HP 7000 and, for the Epson, I am trying to find out if water based pigmented ink will print onto untreated PVC.
I shall pop a query in one of the forums.
