Thanks for the feedback, I will order a drum of PLA. The only reason I went with ABS was it seemed to be stronger, cheaper and less prone to humidity. That said "easy to begin with" makes a lot of sense so will get some PLA :)
Well, while having a go at making my own spooling roller with tensioning arm for trying to print non-paper backed material, I ended up winning a proper bit of kit for (I think) about £49 + carriage. Still going to finish my home brew effort BUT I wanted to have a play with the bit of kit I won...
Well my friend is still happy to do the print for me - but is not able to do it for a while for some reason - SO today I have bit the bullet and ordered an Anet A2 printer and a couple of rolls of ABS. So hopefully should be able to print them within a few days.
Hadn't planned to get into 3D...
I think that would be perfect as it should grip the cardboard tube well - yet be a slightly "easy" fit for the spindle mounted 2" fittings. My "3D friend" has already said he will be happy to print a couple for me - so as soon as the file is ready, that would be fantastic. Thank you very much...
Wow!
How Awesome is that - THANK YOU.
The size I HAVE at the moment is a 2 inch fitting on the spindle (until now all the rolls of paper I have bought have been 2 inch paper cores). the new paper rolls however are 3 inch cores.
So I need a "sleeve" with an internal size of 2 inches and an...
Thank you both.
I reckoned on being able to make a "get it going" solution but just wondered if Bloggs Paper Products supplied them for a few £ in which case Happy Days.
The idea of 3D printing is also spot on - and I do know someone who has a printer - but I think his reply would be "Sure...
It is possible that these little things have a special name and as I do not know it, my searches on Ebay and elsewhere are not getting me very far.
If someone knows what I should search for, please enlighten me!
The printer I have can handle either 50mm rolls or 75mm rolls - but as it was...
Had to wake this thread up as I have found a SUPERB bit of software that has come in handy after someone has asked me to help him print a billboard sized advert. This program is not only FREE (totally) but also allows you to specify amount of overlap. It then generates a PDF file with each sheet...
Hi.
This is a software issue so hope I have plonked the question in the right place.
I am trying to use the Epson 9600 to produce a two piece spot of wall art (two vertical strips to go on the wall as wallpaper). It is to cover a little entrance hall wall in a friend's tattoo parlour edge to...
PLA (and to a much lesser degree ABS) do absorb moisture and if the spool has been open for a while and especially if the humidity has increased this to me seems the most probable cause for the failure. Much more likely than the spool being half good and half bad. Not impossible of course, but I...
Hi Aparsons.
We have the same model printer (9600) and I recently tried to find the Idemitsu oil - without a lot of joy. However after a lot of hunting around I found it on Ebay as sewing machine oil, synthetic #32
If you want to pop me a message on here, I will give you my address. If you...
It's a good board this one - helpful folks who have "been there done that" - and have probably not only "worn the T-shirt" but printed it themselves too.
A little follow up just in case anyone follows this thread in the future with a similar error.
After giving the carriage rails a clean (or at least as best as I could without disassembly) using a lint free cloth and some isopropyl alcohol and being surprised at just how black the cloth became...
Think I might have been steering myself wrongly.
It seems that I misunderstood the PAPER JAM notes. As it seemed (to me) reasonable to reckon that a Paper Jam would be to do with paper being fed through the machine - and affecting the LF motor, it is in fact to do with the CR motor. I was...
Good idea and worth trying.
Just waiting for the artwork to come through so I can get printing, might stick the freezer on "fast freeze" which locks the compressor ON (so no subsequent starting) - that way if I do forget it for a while, everything will be rock solid rather than squishy :)
As...
Thank you Ink Stained fingers and PeterBJ.
Although I do have the service manual it DID take me some time to find so I think that could be potentially extremely helpful for others.
I really like the idea of the paper guide system to help keeps things running true - and this *IS* an issue on my...
I am generally speaking very happy with the 9600 and the print quality really is very acceptable for such an old machine that doesn't have the new orange, green and red inks etc.
There is one annoyance however and from time to time, it throws up "Paper Jam Error" - at which point the only...
