Just an update on my experience of Brother printers.
They are far more sturdy than mainstream Canon printers, which have become so plasticky in recent years. However, Canon prints, especially for photos are far superior to those of Brother printers and arguably any other printer manufacturers...
Personally I would recommend refillable carts but perhaps that's because I still like to refill carts. Maybe I'm old school though and still holding on to the old days
My daughter has been using compatible carts from EBAY for some time for her MG5550 printer, with no problems, and paying less...
For me it the best ever has to be the IP4500. Easy refilling, chip resetter etc. However, time moves on and we we all want AIOs with Wifi & cloud printing etc. and the MG range takes some beating. No resetter but CLi551 carts are available for 50p each on Ebay. Refillable carts can also be got...
I have used black dye ink in one of my printers for years with no problems. If you don't use your printer regularly, it's probably a better bet as it won't clog as easily.
I suspect that many compatible BK carts contain dye ink anyway.
Dye ink is fine to use in your pigment cartridge but don't...
Presumably this means that even the first page of the print comprises of a colour mix, i.e. EVERY page has a reduced pigment ink intensity. So the only way of ensuring waterproofing is to print on single pages?
I'm new to Brother printers, having purchased a couple of DCP-J4120DW printers on Ebay.
I've used Canon printers for several years and have been used to refilling carts and re-setting them.
I've been using refillable cartridges in the Brother printers (no sponges, like Canon)
However, I still...
Just to answer my original question. There doesn't seem to be a way to override empty cartridge warning on my DCP-J41210DW although, from what I have read, it seems possible on earlier Brothers
I think you have either misunderstood this thread or are over complicating things.
I am simply replying to a thread asking if it is possible to use Canon ink in Brother printers. NOT what the result would be on photo paper.
Personally I cannot see the point in comparing Brother printers with...
Just an update. Compared Canon ink print outs with original Brother carts ink and Canon ink prints are brighter with better flesh tones. The Brother ink carts are duller and flesh tones have a pinkish tone.
Now I must add that I am using generic 80gsm paper and not photo paper. However,my first...
I'm using these larger refillable carts (the ones that stick out of the printer) I thought they would work like CISS, but no. The printer doesn't seem to recognise the print levels in these carts. These oversize carts contain about 80ml of ink but the printer doesn't seem to monitor ink levels...
Does anyone have any details about which printer manufacturer sells the most inkjet printers? Canon seems to have the most threads on this forum but is this replicated in sales?
Canon rules as far as I'm concerned but I always thought that Epson outsold Canon. Am I right? Or does Canon rule in...
This is an interesting read. I'm a long time Canon addict but the days of robust printers and easy refilling seem to be on the wane for all printers, However, I do like to experiment and have just purchased a S/H Brother printer which seems pretty solid. Print outs are nowhere near as good as...
My worst experience of a failed printhead was when, one day, I turned on my MP610 and found that my printhead had failed. The printer and PH were nearly new (I'd printed about a 100 pages) but I hadn't used the printer for a while. No reason for the failure unless it was a kind of power surge...
I've been running the printer with the oversize refillable carts. The ones that stick out of the printer. The printer doesn't allow for extra ink capacity and reports the carts as empty when they are still almost full. Presumably the printer is programmed to only monitor normal sized carts. Bit...
Did you have to purchase some Brother original carts for refilling? I read somewhere that the carts that come with the printer can't be reset. I've just bought a S/H DCP-J4120DW and am using refillable carts.
What ink do you use?
Are you talking about dead printers with missing PHs? I have a dead ip4500 and mp610 which will be going to the local tip. Apologies if this isn't what you want.
