Martin,... I don't think you get it. The act of "Turning the Printer ON" triggers the action to check the clock. If the printer is on it continues to wait. I will never initiate a cleaning action just out of time. However, If you leave it on and 12 hours has elapsed since you printered...
aaronthink,... first, ghwellsjr has provided good answers. However, I would add some more details. If you could you should post a picture of you best nozzle check. Seeing that image will give us a much better idea of the real problem. To give yourself a better picture of exactly how many and...
Jaxink,...To summaries this entire thread,...you started out with a bad nozzle check with the black head printing very bad. No amount of cleaning help,...so then you took the printer apart. After cleaning the top of the purge unit you took the suction tube off of the black ink pad and injected...
AAronthink,... The LAST THING I WOULD EVER DO would be to take the print head apart. Of all the people that have attempte this, less than 10% get it right
As far as I know a new head from Canon should cost somewhere between $50 and $75. I've never seen any results from the Ultrasonic...
jaxink,...First I want to congratulate you on what you have done. It shows great initative. That tiny little front cover switch is a bear if you did not re-assemble the right way. It won't matter if you tape the door up or what ever since it is not closeing the switch. Since you fixed it...
lin,... I have sent jazink a special set of instruction on how to test the printhead and the purge until before he goes any farther. I always ask people to do this test before they ever consider taking apart a printer. That is pretty serious work for most people.
What you are suggesting...
jaxink,...While ghwellsjr,... gave you some good answers, i think you are looking at a disconnected Black suction tube from the purge unit. The first nozzle test show some amout of black ink but was fading out when means it was almost out of ink when you printed that nozzle test. Then you many...
jaxink,... You need to print a nozzle check and post it. I'm sure you followed directions and got the head totally dry before you put it back. There can be nothing wrong with your head if you did it right. Either the remaining problem is with your ink carts, or the purge unit, or you did...
jaxink,... Then your BLACK printhead is still clogged. Have you removed it and REALLY CLEANED IN IN YOU LAUNDRY ROOM SINK BY FLUSHING ALL OF THE INK OUT OF THE PRINTHEAD. How did you use Windex to clean the head?????
I have posted a detailed description on how to clean all Canon printheads...
aaronthnk,...I think that is a good idea, but you can still use you water to get the head clean and once you have it clean then you can rinse it with water or alcohol, just so that before you print anything you do a deep cleaning cycle to purge everything out and insure you have PRIMED the head...
aaronthink,....After looking at your nozzle test print I thing that it is not that bad. Of course it is not good enough either to print a photo, but I think you are going way OVERBOARD in your efforts to clean the head. Somehow a lot of ink has dried up inside the printhead and you have been...
aaronthink,..You have already done most of what we would suggest. I would ask that you print a nozzle test pattern and post that on this site. You may be trying to fix a damaged head.
Call the Canon Parts department. When some answers, ask again for the parts department. To place an order you need a Credit card as you have no ACCOUNT with them. I find they have the best prices for NEW heads and they give you a warranty.

It's been a long time since I posted to this web site, as I have been busy on many other projects. However, after seeing this post I felt I needed to add my 2cents.
Many moons ago I posted the suggestion of saturating the purge ink pads with windex as part of my test to check the purge unit...
mikeeasmel,... I guess it is time for me to jump into this thread and provide some help. You asked what is the purpose of the purge unit and could the printer operate without it. The answer is "NOOOOOO". the purge unit is absolutely the "First" thing in the printer that must work. Let me...
Boatmen58,... or Carolyn,... The advise you just got from "Turbguy" is correct. Even after you find and get the screws out, it will still be difficult to lift the mechanism out be cause of the tabs that hold it in place. The difficult part of any of these types of repairs is just knowing...
embguy,... Well I just check and the only printers I'm missing is the MP610 and the MX860, so if you have either of those we can make a deal.
Here is what I have done.
i series = 550,560, 850, 860, 950, 960, 9100, 9900, 9950
F series = F20, F30, F50, F60, F80
iP Series = 3000, 4000, 5000...
embguy,... I just noticed all of the Canon printers that you have. By now YOU SHOULD BE THE EXPERT. We should be asking you questions.
I have torn apart and repaired dozens of Canon printers of all makes and models. I have written a Repair Manual for each of them. I'm always in the...
embguy,.... I hope you did not misunderstand me. Tape over the aiir intake for the magena will stop all ink flow. Are you thinking that the magenta ink cart has a small air leak somewhere and this is how you can test it. If it is a compatible, look very close at it. Some of the companies...
