I would recommend HP. HP is one of the largest contributor in the open source world. There is one projected supported and funded by HP, called "HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP)" at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html
It provides Linux drivers support for almost all HP printers...
Hi,
I'm talking about these printers:

Hi,
I just wonder that can I use refill the Epson OEM ink cart (I know it's difficult) and disable the ink monitoring to get it works. (Like in Canon or HP) Or must we use the resetter to reset the chip?
I've heard someone said that laser printer is only excellent in text and diagram/graphics printing on plain paper. Maybe it's due to the way laser printer work? (laser -> drum -> very fine opaque powder -> paper -> cook them up!)
My HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 5525 will do firmware auto update when it's turn on and connected to the Internet (It can do this without the computer). Luckily I connected this printer to an UPS! And luckily the update won't brick my refilled ink cartridges.
I once ran dry my HP printhead, and it still okay. HP printhead is more forgiving than Canon's. Inside it, there seems to have a sensor that will eventually stop the printhead when something is wrong. I experienced it once when I refill the wrong ink (Epson ink) and its viscosity clogged and...
Hey! You make me remember that I read somewhere on the Internet that HP black pigment ink (the one specially for text printing only) is made from carbon particles...
I heard that pigment ink can be used on glossy paper, like Epson and HP Officejet series => curious to try it with my printer => pool it by set to Plain Paper mode, the only way of forcing it to use black pigment channel => now I know there's black pigment inks, not ink. :D
Wow, it mess up my brain!!
There is something...yes, something...I'm curious about that "something" the printer does with ink, paper, and everything else...
Mine is 3 dye + 1 pigment, so actually there's no way to force it using black pigment other than set to plain paper. And...yes, the...
Those are self-test and are always print one-sided only.
"Print Quality Diagnostic" print text parts using CMY dye ink, and nozzles check of course use each and every ink separately. => Look at the nozzle check part of the K channel and you can see the different clearly!
The "Printer Status...
I add one more: Canon is not like HP also! And Canon is not like any other printer brands that use thermal-printhead technology. Yes, the technology is the same, but each company will add/modify a little bit...so not really same.
Hi everyone,
So far we can see many excellent and in-dept posts on this forum regarding ink/ink cartridge/inkjet... However, there's not much about laser toner/powder available. If anyone has knowledge/understanding about these kind of things, please please share with us! Don't be hesitate just...
Just be careful since powder/toner is much much more dangerous than ink. If one blow it up and accidentally inhale it, it's not fun! With ink it's very unlikely you can unintentionally..drink it!
If you still wanna go with laser: buy some more cartridges refilled already and ready to be used...
Having a look at the site, the pins is fairly small so it might be quite difficult to solder it.
Hope they can find way to re-program it without physical stuff being involved.
I have some gift for everyone, printed on my HP Deskjet with Inkmate ink: ;)
IK Plus: you can see that black is not...black! Yes, if print in laser printer, then it's nicer and blacker, but I have no scan for this! Sorry.
PaperOne: blacker!
Sorry I have to cover some essential info...
Wow! It's complicated.
I didn't mention one thing: I don't use OEM ink cart, I refill my cart with Inkmate black pigment ink for HP DesignJet 500/800. Is that the problem, beside the paper one?
Yes, I see all Epson printers here are used with CISS and Inktec pigment ink (some use pigment-UV...
