One of my inks isn't flowing

Actually, the problem I had before was clogging caused by cross-contamination between my photo black and print black inks in a worn head. It had been on the shelf for a long time. Great, thanks very much. Now, when I use this suspect cyan cart again, what's the safest way to test it?

One of my inks isn't flowing

I'm using the German method to refill. I maybe should have mentioned that I'm using 220/221 carts, and cannibalizing the 225/226 chips. I'm not sure why you say this is an on-going problem. This is the first hardware problem I've had w/this printer. I topped up the magenta, put in a different...

One of my inks isn't flowing

Whoa! How did this happen? I looked at all the colour carts and only the magenta tank seems empty (but the chip says the cart is 3/4 full) However, it seems that the cyan is what's missing but there's plenty still in the cyan. Here's a scan of what's happening: And here's what it should look...

Need chips for CLI-226BK and PGI-225PGBK

I bought a bunch of 220/221 cartridges to act as 225/226s for my MG6120, and put the 225/226 chips into them and that's worked rather well for me so far. However, I seem be missing one CLI-226BK cartridge and one PGI-255PGBK cartridge. I don't care about the cartridges, but I'm going the need...

Where did my ink go when refilling a virgin cartridge?

Actually, it looks like 3mL was too much. I filled the syringe with 5mL, and maxed out the tank well before I emptied it. It looks like the sponge is saturated, because several days later none of it seems to be missing. I guess I'll fill the other virgin cartridges with about 7.5mL.

Where did my ink go when refilling a virgin cartridge?

http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7483 Ok, so it seems we are arriving at consensus: I should put another 4-5mL in (on top of the 5mL already in there). So, I'm curious as to what's wrong by overfilling by a small amount.

Where did my ink go when refilling a virgin cartridge?

Fill as in to the top? I was also told (a few months back) that it's better to err on the side of underfilling. I don't remember any explanation as to what the dangers of overfilling are, but that underfilling (at least by a little) was not dangerous.

Where did my ink go when refilling a virgin cartridge?

I'm more a fan of the German method. I only use topfill when the hole is already breached. So I've got one telling me that that in addition to the 5mL I've already put in, I should put in another 10. On the other hand, I've been told that the sponges hold no more than 1.5mL, which doesn't seem...

Where did my ink go when refilling a virgin cartridge?

And another problem is that I already sealed the top (I didn't use any hot glue, just the plug and Al tape that octosomething provided. How serious a mistake is that?) so the subsequent fillings will have to be done German. "Empty" in this case, means not a drop of ink. The transparencies were...

Where did my ink go when refilling a virgin cartridge?

I did that. I used the top-fill method this time, because the hole wasn't yet plugged. Now that it is, and taped over w/Al, I'll have to use the German method. So I still have an empty tank and no idea how much more I should add.

Where did my ink go when refilling a virgin cartridge?

I know full well, it went into the empty sponge. So clearly I need to put more ink in than what would be for an almost-saturated sponge. So I bought a bunch of 220/221 cartridges as transparent alternatives to the 225/226s that go into my MG6120. I was told to fill the tank (the magenta one)...

    Need CLI-226/PGI-225 backups

Thanks for the advice. Come to think of it, I really should have known better. Anyway, it didn't tell me if I would always have clearance--only the time when I tried it.

How many mL to put in my 220/221 substitutes for 225/226?

Ok, so I'll go for 5.0000mL. And I'll let you know how it goes, but don't hold your breath, because no news is good news and generating bad news could take a while, if ever at all. Oh, anyone want any unused PGI-220/CLI-221 chips?

    Need CLI-226/PGI-225 backups

Actually, in the end I went with the 221s because they have a transparency that makes it easier to see what you're getting yourself into. What your printer might not like is the chips that come w/the 221s, so you'll have to salvage the appropriate ones. Make sure Mr PrecisionColors knows what...

How many mL to put in my 220/221 substitutes for 225/226?

But isn't there a danger in underfilling it? If the chip reports that the cartridge is not empty, won't the printer try to print while short of ink? I was told that was dangerous. Also, if I do err on the side of underfilling, then I'm back to my question on what to do about the empty sponge.

How many mL to put in my 220/221 substitutes for 225/226?

BTW, I usually do German, but the tops are open right now. So I'll top fill them this time, then seal the hole and German fill every other time after. Ok, so I can err on the site of quite a bit more then. Thanks.

How many mL to put in my 220/221 substitutes for 225/226?

I'm ready to start filling these transparent PGI-220/CLI-221 substitutes for the opaque PGI-225/CLI-226 that Canon expects me to use for my MG6120, but now I'm confused on the question of amounts. http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=52047 recommends that I fill by weight. I've...

    Need CLI-226/PGI-225 backups

I think there's something in what Hat's saying. Sure the coins weren't knocked off during calibration when I opened the cover, but I can't generalize to assume that the cartridges won't ever be given more height. I think I'd better just forget about the plugs.

Well mine has a lip, too. How did you get the head to get that close to it, though? Did you pull the plug when it was in that position? BTW, I did the test w/the 225/226s. Could it be that the 220/221s have a higher profile?
